yes it is, you can prevent this by getting an additional sediment prefilter.

just had a look online for one, and it seems like a stand alone filter, do i need to get housing for it, or swap one of the membranes for it?

just seen that i have to take out the carbon filter, but will that effect quality, longevity of membranes? or is not a big issue to worry over ?

when I used a merlin I just bought 2 10" housings and added a pre sediment and carbon filter before the merlin and removed the merlins pre filter when it was knackered just leaving the first housing empty.
Was cheaper to replace and meant you could just buy 10"universal filters from anywhere.

you need to buy a new housing and filter i have a double 20 inch housing which has a sediment filter and a carbon filter (to remove chlorine) and i no longer use the merlin pre filter (top filter when merlin is stood vertically) as it expensive and it doesn't last long. I bought my 20 inch filters from ro man but they are no more but im sure you could get them from another supplier. Hope this helps.

moggsy.

sorry to but in how do you find using merlin.

have you ever used ro system.

i have 200 gpd ro-man system, been happy with but just wondered about benefits of merlin.

i.e quicker water production

but worry about waste.

My setup is at my parents place who are not on water metre.

but was thinking in an emergency could use merlin at my place but i live in Flat.

I'm on water metre.

Just wondered how quick is water production from merlin and also more waste water?

hope you sort your problem out

thanks lee

hi lee,

i think its great for myself, i would say 1/4 goes into tank and 3/4 goes down the drain, but that doesnt bother me, im not on a meter. takes about 6hrs to fill a 650ltr tank, there is one pre carbon filter, costs £20 and i change it every 2-3 months, and theres 2 membrane filters, they cost £150 as a pair, and they have lasted me 2 years, i think they might be on their last legs now though, we have very clean water in swansea, 85 tds out of tap, so i think thats why they last so long. - mogs

sorry if explanation sounded confusing, I've done just the same as ptwt has, just remove the prefilter and add two inline housings with a pre sediment and a carbon filter to the water supply  before it goes into the merlin.
