Insulation tips ?
« on: January 08, 2010, 12:07:03 pm »
Following Neil's post I thought people could share tips on insulating. In my case the cheaper the better as money is getting tight and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

What works

What products

Where from / how much

I'm currently have 2 single duvets wrapped around my tank with cardboard between the tank and duvet.

I've just been out to my van and I can feel a small amount of heat from the tank (I have 2x 300w aquarium heaters in there), so I think the duvets are doing a good job.

I put loads of rockwool in the back of  my van. Much better than any duvet although i have got a 13.5 one Argos value one over the tank. And I got an oil rad on low.
B&Q are selling non itchy 8" rockwool for a fiver. You get three rolls in the pack. I put it behind the ply and on the roof. Then kept it up there with some 5mm ply self tappered into those reinforcement rails. Rammed some in the tank baffle and in all the supports just to try and retain some heat.

I got foam pipe insulation around all my hoses and wrapped that with foil covered bubble wrap as it was still freezing before I bought the heater. Cut some

I got two frost heaters in my garage trying to protect my static system and rockwool everywhere on top of the foam pipe insulation etc as its only a prefab garage. Looks like something out of the Blakes 7 episode when the Liberator blew up.... That's showing my age though.
