Those who put salt / grit down, what do you use, where from and how much ?

Out of intrest anyone heard of using sand?

when i was out at work after the last lot of snow, i was doing a bungalow, old couple there had put down sand, said it works just as well doesn't affect plants or carpets like salt,

i must admit i worry about putting down salt for this reason don't want custy saying they trod salt in over there carpet :

anyone used sand?

anyone been told off for putting salt?

i wouldn't use grit as i think it would stain custies carpets brown. regular salt will just hoover up i reckon

From my local pet shop, they had 3 pallet loads of the stuff! I got some last year from b&q as well for about £5 a 25 kg bag, worth a look in there also.

I've used sand to get my van moving again and I suppose it would work just the same anywhere. Yes if trod indoors it will mark carpets, but once its dried it will just hoover up.

i tried asda value litter, and it made a right mess, theres a lot of dirt mixed in, which turns to mud, try salt on its own

Salt prevents the melted snow forming ice I found dishwasher salt not very good I now do my drive way with cheap cat litter from ASDA  gives grip.

Was using table salt on friday , used it because of steep steps , worked great , went back today to collect and got moaned at by 50% of them , perhaps i will just let them all take a tumble next time !
There i was thinking i was going to look responsible,caring, all i was , was the bloke that got salt on there carpets .
Next time i will put a bit of money away each week in prep for the big freeze.
