I'm absolutely broke, and I need to work. Argh
« on: January 05, 2010, 11:03:16 pm »
I just can't believe this, I just have my tax account left with money in it, only got a few hundred in the main account and end of the month the tax bill is coming, and my van insurance. And having had to spend £200 on a new membrane, and £246 on van repairs.

I've had it if I can't work soon. Haven't been able to work for a while, being away over the holidays and waiting for my new membrane to arrive.

And it's 2" of snow here so far and its piling up. What the heck do I do.  :'(  :'(

Go out tomorrow and try and work?

You could contact all your custys and explain that the weather is causing such a problem that you are only able to offer internal window cleaning.

Might get some take you up on it.

Failing that, you could go out and see how you get on, just take your time.
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

Tim, you can phone the Tax Man, they're nice people (ish), and explain to them your problem.  They will let you pay your tax bill in instalments.

And as soon as you pay off the instalments, set up a monthly standing order to the tax man and just treat it like another monthly bill.

Look this guy has been honest and come on here to describe his situation hoping for some gems of wisdom...so be kind and try and help where you can.

Tim and anyone else in this situation have a look at your bills and contact those companies prior to the due date if possible and see if you can work out a payment scheme for say your next couple of payments...it may buy you the time you need and if you have to be late paying bills this should should not affect your credit ratings...now I am no expert on this but surely the company expecting their money from you will 'feel' better knowing that you are making the effort to try and arrange payments.

Welcome back Tim ..did you get to skate while back home?

Cheers
Dave.

It's probably no consolation [GQC] Tim, but the top 11 threads are about snow stopping us all working.

So far for most of the Country this is the worst winter for 30 years.

Bad times require taking drastic measures.

Unfortunately not entirely correct though...

I tried to get installments a couple of years ago and they wouldn't let me.

You can ask to reduce your payments for this year anytime up until 31st Jan, i know because i have just done it.
I worked out how much i had lost due to the weather and then worked out the tax on that amount and have asked to reduce my bill by that amount.
This was calculated to be £600 which is then split into 2 amounts of £300 ( one for jan payment the other for june payment )
The down side would be if you have a bumper year and exceed your projected earnings, in which case you will be asked to payback the difference back plus a bit of interest.
But at least it might you out of a tight spot right now.
Those that post unhelpful comments should be ashamed of themselves, i'm sure we've all been between a rock and hard place at some point in our lives.

I tried to get installments a couple of years ago and they wouldn't let me.

There's more to this story, because when I phoned them, they were okay.  I think they wanted me to do an income and expenditure over the phone and we worked out a monthly payment.  The guy I spoke to was okay, he wasn't 'high-handed', and I paid the payments required.

I mean if they wouldn't let you pay by instalments, what was the reason?  If you haven't got the money and you can't magic it up, the tax man will take you to court and bankrupt you.

Squeaks, I smell more...
