Trad bottoms until next week
« on: January 05, 2010, 07:59:13 pm »
Thinking of just going out and cleaning the bottom windows of my customers and telling them that thats the only service i can provide until the weathers better. Im thinking of only charging the around ahlf of what i normally charge and see how that goes.... this way i can get round to see the customers and still show im reliable and im still earning for my time

Does anyone think thats ok?

I have got away with just doing the bottoms on a couple ( they didn't want me to go up the ladder) but if you offer to do that now a few might ask you to only do tops or only bottoms in the future and then you might regret it

I haven't tried this myself, but may do so if things (ie the weather) don't start to
improve soon.

My hunch is that most customers would be pleased to see you, and for you to do what you reasonably could. Most won't want you to take any unnecessary risks on their property.

I got a new customer today. The patio at the back had decking, covered in a dusting of snow, and it was the customer who told me that she didn't want me to risk going up the ladder on it. Of the two upstairs windows, I was able to do one safely by jamming the ladder under the sill and ensuring that the feet could not slip, but the other was a definite no-no. And I was still given more than my asking price.

u know what im gonna say!why on earth do u not use a trad pole?u can clean most upstairs windows to a reasonable standard.u will have to miss the odd landing one over a garage/flatroof etc but u can get away with charging the same price and say youll do that particular window next time.

honestly!i thought u guys were window cleaners!! ;D ;D ;D

the snow here is nearly a foot thick.no chance of working IMO.too dangerous to drive!!

price higher/work harder!

Im in north west too daz.

Just thinking of when i can get out . Ive never heard of or ever seen a trad pole. Im guessing it would take time to get used to it and learn the skill to use one. If so i need a quick solution. Its a must do for me just to get money to live off its not out of choice. Cant wait for them summer days - Bring on 12 hour days. Im going to plan carefully for next xmas and get some money put away

Good luck to everyone anyway. Hope we are all earning pretty soon

ive been in similar situations in the past d.ward.im much better with my money and even pay the taxman on time these days! ;)im running a bit low on funds now but could last another few weeks without working.

i learned from my mistakes a few years ago! ;D ;D

best wishes and remember build up an emergency fund.even if u just put £20 away every week in a seperate account.thats a grand cushion at the end of the year.up your prices and work in most weather apart from gale force winds/heavy rain/snow.

regards dazmond

ive been using trad poles for years now, they take a fair bit of practice but i can do a reasonable job with them.a lot safer for some awkward windows etc.i use ladders though normally if its not icy/slippy.
price higher/work harder!

Couple of weeks ago, started using trad pole with a wagtail. Takes practice and takes longer than normal. At least we were earning, did some downstairs only too. Can't work now as it's -6 and freezes on the glass.

Next week ze Gurmans reckon it will get at least a couple of degrees warmer. Will get out then. Got a few hundred quids worth of carpet cleaning lined up, so not deperate yet.

I cant get to my work otherwise id do something similar, guy on m60 kil;ed in crash yesterday and on the road upto my rounds on the radio they were interviewing dozens of drivers abandoning their cars, and there not really another way round that isnt steep?

plus i tried to get off my drive yesterday and ended up stuck on the pavement .also when i did get out to nip to nearby park to go sledging with family, on way back was coming down a hill where a bus had crashed into a load of parked cars, when i tried to go round it i couldnt slow down as road was so icy and a car coming up the hil had to reverse i just about managed to squeeze through at the last second

So i dont fancy driving 20 miles in that

its a nightmare

Nearly gonna lose another week unless it thaws quick

got about £90.00 due near my house at end of week but that will be it for the week the way things are going with more snow last night and more forecast for tommorow

Anyone else in manchester stuck or are you out and about??
