a couple of years ago a w/c turned up to clean my daughters windows and I run him and so did all the other customers.

Its too sad to even contemplate. In my "other job" as a London Taxi driver all the sad geezers will be out working over Christmas. Every radio job has a £20 premium so they will be out grabbing.

A lot of them are divorced, I wonder why..............

What do you mean by "run him"?  Run him off?  Rung him up? 
What day did he turn up for you to do that then?

No way on Xmas day though I did a commercial job on Boxing Day a few years ago.  I had an argument with the other half I was living with back then and didn't want to stay in the house so I figured I might as well earn some money as sit in a layby.
I do tend to work between Xmas and New Year though.  I intend to work 28 - 31 December.

Paul, I think the 28th is a Bank Holiday (Public Holiday?), so it might be best avoiding residential work on that day.

I also work between christmas and new year, I am also on call for christmas, boxing and new years day (carpet cleaning).  Last year I had to go out on boxing day to remove red wine from a very expensive white carpet.

If you really dislike anyone working at christmas especially if you have to run them off, I take it you do not go to the shops, the pub, the garage.

You also will not be watching the tv, in fact onless you have independent means of power, you should be sitting in the dark and cold because someone has to work at christmas to provide you with these and other services we all take for granted.

I cannot see why a window cleaner cannot work between the holidays.

and finally if anyone tried to run me off, they would find that the new year brings dirty windows unless they start to clean them themselves, because I will not be coming back.

Well most years the 27th isn't a holiday.
So maybe you don't need the money as much as some.  Good for you.  It's not necessarily about being money driven/greed.  It can be about struggling to pay bills etc.  It sounds like you have had the good fortune and insufficient hassles in your personal life to trigger a financial problem.  Some months, the bit I can take from an extra day or two are the difference between paying my way or not - especially if there has been a freeze-up.  Maybe you will experience what I'm on about one day if a relationship goes wrong and costs you a lot or if you need a long time off due to medical issues.
I won't always have a financial problem.  It may take a few years but I will claw my way out of it.  When I've done so, I will probably also take a few days off between Xmas and new year.  Until then, they'll either just have to put up with me or dump me.  No problem if the latter.
I do long for the days when I can once again afford to take a few days off at year end.  Until then, I will just have to put up with a week in the summer and an occasional long weekend.

I have been running my sucessful business for over 7 years now, and I have always worked the christmas period (27 December to the 31 December).  I have never had 1 objection.

regardless of what you may think some people actually like to enjoy their Xmas and not have people bothering them at this period.

and some customer like to have clean windows all the year round as well.maybe you don't enjoy Xmas so want  to make sure you turn up at their houses  OR ARE YOU JUST MONEY DRIVEN ??

I enjoy the festive season very much, thank you, but I also enjoy the 5 holidays a year that I have ( I am off to Africa for the whole of January again) and I have only just come back from 3 weeks in the USA, I also have an expensive lifestyle that I enjoy as well.

I had to go out today to quote for an extra property on a £10000 contract that I won last week, because the property mainternance company know that I will not be in the country after next week.
