Van rental
« on: December 23, 2009, 12:47:57 pm »
Hi again
I phoned insurance ysturday to change my insurance next month to modified for the wfp....they said that because my system isworth more thanthe van itself they wont insure me..

Solution - Get a newer van. I havent considered rental before but i am now. Il look more proffessional and have a maintenance contract as well.

Who rents their vans and what are you charged per month & for what model?

Cheers

i dont rent vans, i would rather buy a cheap on and get a few years out of it,  i have a had a few friends rent vans, one had it repod as could not keep up payments and the other was always worring about having the money for it they where each paying 200-300 a month,  the vans never got them any work, they where just work horses

if this is your first year as a wc, wait till you are more stable and then get a new van, nothing worse than having to pay 300 a month for something just to look good,

have a look on ebay there is usually a few people wanting people to take over the payments for there van, that they no longer want but re stuck with

i seen a nissan vannete there the other day £1500 with a full wfp set up

look for another insurance co. I bet there are thousands of vans running around where the kit they are carrying is worth more than the van - not talking about WFP.

doesnt matter, they will still insure him on the van witout wfp, and that is what the policy waas originaly, thats what they will claim,  had they insured him with wfp then said no after taking some money, they cancel with out penalty,  he can cancel it now and pay a penalty, but that depends on how longs left,

have you checked that they will insure you on a new van with wfp, as they might just be saying that to sod you off,  as usually they are happy to take you money and then say get lost when you try and claim

about 4 months left. They will insure me if the van is worth more than the system.

Firstly - insuring your system. Is it against theft? Well perhaps if it is then invest in a really good immobilising system for the van and take your chance.

Van rental. My experience.

I wanted a new van and I decided on a package that was intended for me to trade in and replace at the 4 year point but that would let me change anytime I like, with a financial adjustment, or keep the van indefinitely for a "peppercorn" rental.

After years of tired estate cars I bit the bullet and went for a Doblo, 56 plate, 1.3 turbo diesel, 736Kg payload - brand new - just over three years ago on a four year rental agreement set up with the Bank of Scotland through vans direct.

All figures include VAT.

As a non-vat registered sole trader In November 2006 I paid £540 deposit and have a monthly "rental" agreement of £180 per month for 48 months. In November 2010 I have a choice of:

a) trading in and setting up a new deal which will include paying the balloon rental of £2460 but with the van's value (which I negotiate at trade in) going in my favour towards the new deal.

b) selling the van and walking away and the balance over or under the balloon rental (plus BoS get 2.5% handling charge) being handed over either to or from me.

c) keep the van and pay the balloon rental but then have to pay £180 per year (not month) for as long as I own it. If I subsequently sell then I keep the money less BoS 2.5% handling charge.

Originally I had thought about trading in for a VW transporter at the 4 year point but on reflection I think I may (due to the incredibly low mileage - still not reached 20K after 38 months) keep it another year or two.
It's a game of three halves!

I know I can be long winded, d.ward -  but it's in the above post!  ;D

I obtained the van from "vansdirect" who offerd the lease/rental as an option through the Bank of Scotland.
