The jury is still out for me.  I think I would like hot water on demand, but we leave all the windows clean with cold water.  In fact if we get complaints it's more to do with the fact that the windows aren't really dirty!  Do I want them even cleaner???

For me Pj I see it as a bit of a luxury not a necessity, If I could afford one it would only be if the money was definatley not needed elsewhere & also I think it would have to be an on demand system like the gas powered ones

i dont have a tank in the van so getting a whole hot water setup is pointless for me.....but if i did and i wanted to have hot on demand then my vote would be yes.

you do realize hot water freezes quicker than cold

the water was just warm, not hot........and they stayed warm for around 3 hours.....suited me just fine

It cleans better-even in summer- and is much pleasanter to work with.It costs £1 a day. What is there to think about?

The retro diesel people all seem happy enough too (running costs £6 per day).


How many have posted on here that they did it and it was a big mistake? None, in my memory.

I think for bird muck and maybe 2 weeks of bitter cold days per year... its not worth the money,...

i would rather invest the money into another round first. at least it will make me money.

Are you saying you havew been using hot water in this weather ? what temp

I've been using hot water yes,... I haven't checked the temp but the water is steaming off the glass (It looks quite impressive!). Its not madly hot tho,... I'm guessing around 45degrees.

I have been thinking about the whole hot thing for a while now. This cold spell has caused a bt of agro with my entire system being frozen.
Two things come to mind when talking about hot; firstly hot freezes faster than cold when it contacts the glass (also possible cracking issues, rare but possible) Has anyone using hot experienced the water freezing on the glass?
Secondly, the way I understand the system is that you have a water tank in back of van then the water heater box of tricks either before or after DI (dunno about that, I just have DI as a final polish from the supply which has already been through RO at home) Surely if the water supply in the tank is frozen solid how can it flow through heater system? Is there a circulation route which slowly heats the tank?
I'm thinking it sounds a pretty ineffiecnt way of heating the water if that's true.
I thought about a night heater thing on ebay which heats water, but like I say, if your supply is frozen, your stuffed. Would you leave your pump running all night circulating back to tank? At what point does all your water just evaporate??

I've never cracked a window yet, but I know there are ppl here who have, even in the summer.

Hot water freezes faster under some specific conditions,.. in real life its never been an issue for me.

As for freezing issues, if you have a heater in the van at the end of the day just turn it up full power for and hour and recirculate the hot water back to the tank. The warm tank will keep the van frost free overnight. In normal operation though the heater works "on demand" only heating the water as you use it.

Personally I find elec heating cheaper than gas so I put an extension lead out to a heater in the van,..

All WFP systems should be hot end of story,anyone on here that says cold is just as good has absolutley no experience using hot at all and that`s a fact.Using a hot system has saved me a fortune already this winter so much so that in a matter of days it paid for itself or it would of if i`d got it this year.There is in no way any comparison between the 2 hot cleans better ie frames and glass and is far quicker to use.

5 WFPolers i know couldn`t work hardly at all in the last 2 weeks due to being cold system users,they defrosted the van but as soon as they started work they all got frozen up lol.I said to them defrosting the van is not there problem.

In the same area as you Nigel and my cold system only frozen when I got to a property at 0845, by 0910 it was fine, I think its ground temperature you need to worry about as when the water hits the floor its going to cause ice and then you could have a court case on your hands and this happens with hot or cold water

I've just started with an L5 over the last 3 days.
Cheap, cheerful & Wonderful!
As regards water on the floor: I use a 1mm jets through 120 m of 5 mm hose with a 60 psi pump. Giving me a flow rate if just over 1/2 l/min. 
And most if the water us absorbed by the masonry at these low rates. I just don't do the doors in freezing weather.

Hot hoses like flexi rubber and a warm pole is a pleasure to work with as well as the glass drying in minutes instead of hours and it can take hours to dry with cold this time of year i`ve tried it,i cleaned my windows with cold 1 afternoon and the next day the same spots of water were still there well into the next afternoon in fact.
