the weather for the run up to xmas eve looks cold and im a week behind.do u think screenwash in my bucket will stop the water freezing on the glass?im planning on goin out with just trad pole and bucket and leave the windows above flat roofs til next time?i think macmac mentioned it?i maybe wrong!ive got a big tub of it! : :.anyone tryed it in cold weather with any success?

Screen wash works well on car windscreens in this weather if you have the right mix. I can't see why you couldn't use it on hosue window.

Its exactly the same method using a squeegee or wiper blade.

it might leave a chemical residue on glass if it is really cold i worked with some one years ago who tried anti-freeze in water the water did'nt freeze on glass but the chemical residue left behind did almost like a rainbow effect , looked nice though

used it before started using IPA no problems with residue .You will need upto a 50\50 mix with water.

I've done it with trad W/Cing.  It works just fine.  Put plenty in though.

I went out on thursday, put 5ltr of water in my bucket then added 2.5ltr of "concetrated" screenwash in with it .......... and it still froze on the glass.  : : mind you it was -2.0c

do u add ur normal bit of fairy/detergent as well as the screenwash?as for not working stan.ill not work til the middle of jan if i took  : ;Dur advice!have a good holiday stan!

I used pre mixed screen wash last year, it says on the label it is ok down to - 28.

I did not add any water just a bit off squeegee off.

I had to use it last year, it worked fine (no smears). It was a big house, the house windows were ok but the timber, un-heated conservatory just froze on glass. This is when I added it & was able to clean the said conservatory fine. Used it for the rest of the day wi no probs but I did have to put a lot of it into the bucket!

thats not right Daz you will just work shorter days,i start work when temp gets to minus 2 which is normally nine and sometimes 10 its very rarly this cold all day

I had problems on thursday with water freezing on glass. i added some screenwash and still had problems on houses with no heating on inside them. Ive bought some concentrated for this week but if that fails i wll scrim/microfibre them. About 7 years ago i did a full day scrimming as it was too cold to mop and blade, bit of arm ache but i was nice and warm!

I used screenwash while working trad yesterday morn and it was ok. But a good tip is to clean a window in sections. Mop up just a part of the window and blade it off before it freezes. I do the same in really hot weather when the solution dries too quickly.
  Doing this, using plenty water and the screenwash and you should be ok.
   Remember to keep wiping the front and back of your squeegee to prevent ice forming  .

Agreed & this is where the wagtail flipper comes into it's own!

we always use methanol,its probably the same thing as others use with a differant name,but it works a treat. cheers mick
