what was u charging 3.50
 

i do some terrace houses for which i charge 6 quid, pretty easy, but big windows,  but one of the blokes when i was knocking said he got rid of the last wc becasue he put prices up to 5, and then they wonder y they keep getting new wc

Yes you do get them.

I was charging £2.50p for a 3 bed semi (No conservatory, cos there wasnt many around) back in 1983.

Surely no house is £2.50p now. Minimum £6.00 upwards.

the problem i see it is that 6 ph is miminum wage so there for 10 a hour must be an excellent wages, and if your on that type of money  you must be rolling in it

even labour know thinks 14000 a year is a good wage and 20000 is well off
 

people seem to think that if a job takes 30 mins, then you must charge £3 as this is half the miminum wage as that is shurly what a wc is on, as it isnt a skill job and they must only be doing it becasue they couldnt get a proper job or you are just topping up your dole,   

these people do not live in the real world

Bloke does three bed end terrace across the road from me(and others on street) for £2.50,from what i can see he just uses 2 cloths,suppose one wet one dry,they got a conny,think its something like £3.50 including conny,(mind you,he still on better hourly rate than me at the speed i go!!!) :

You came last Thursday 10 Dec to give me a quote for cleaning my windows, thank you for the quote but I will not be needing you as the quote is more than I am wanting to pay, my last window cleaner only charged £2.50, thank you anyway, Mrs Thorpe
It was a 3 bed semi, with small upvc porch.

And she wondered why the last cleaner stopped coming.

I love this situation. You probably aren't going to get the business anyway so have fun with it.

When they tell you how much their previous window cleaner used to charge them, put on that really serious expression, inhale through your nearly closed mouth, top teeth on bottom lip so you can hear the air being drawn in because you have some bad news to tell them - then say quietly and respectfully; "The reason why your previous window cleaner stopped coming is because he died (then pause for a moment) .......... of starvation, because he charged so little."

Oh - credit for this goes to a CIU member who posted this suggestion a few years ago.

Oh, by the way, I did get one job after saying this.

what he wants to charge is up to him,what i want to/can earn an hour is my concern,I am just starting out and building my speed up,making sure job is done right rather than fast at moment,I nor the man who cleans near me do not mess up your chances,He cleans one across road for £2.50,I clean one round the corner for £13. I set my own prices,they take it or leave it,I don't blame them for having him at £2.50,Infact he can do mine,(Just off to collect me dole now  )

That really sums up all the problems with people who want a £3 price nicely.  You really hit the nail on the head there IMO.
Plenty of people like that here in St.Helens.  Even a lot of people who accept the higher price you can tell begrudge handing over payment  :  One £7 customer even said to me not long ago " I think I'll go into window cleaning, you must be earning a nice wage for an easy job "            I wasn't feeling particularly cheery as I could see him following my movements from every room just looking for a problem so he could try and knock the price down probably  : .......  I said to him - " Yeah go for it if you fancy it, just spend 6 months or so building customers canvassing every spare minute you have, get some insurance, advertising and spend more time building a good reputation and then it's just down to a hard days graft every day and doing a good job "  ............He paid up without comment     The dickhead.

You just get old window cleaners who never put their prices up for years and leave the customers thinking that £2-50 is still the going rate. My friend John lived in a house in Harrow for 14 years and through all that time he had a window cleaner who charged him £4. He never put his prices up despite charging about a quarter of the going rate in the end.

John moved out about two years ago otherwise he would probably still be getting his windows cleaned for £4.

Can you imagine how the next window cleaner will get on?
