Gardners and Wintec supply the 100 GPD membranes. use them rather as they are interchangeable. In fact my RO came with 3 x 75 GPD membranes which I replaced with 100 GPD and the last time I upgraded them to 150 GPD. Produce more water now than when I first bought it.

no offense but why settle for 100gpd membranes when you can pick up a 4040 RO membrane so cheaply these days?

For example, 100gpd membranes cost about £36 inc vat
For 3 of them thats about a hundred quid for only 300 gallons per day

You can pick up a 4040 membrane for £360 odd inc vat and delivery, and that will produce about 2500 gallons per day.

I just dont know how you guys manage with such small ro units, how do you not run out of water?

But its not just the cost of the membrane, you need the housing, 20" sediment and Chlorine removal filters and a DI vessel - all expensive items.
We run a 450GPD RO unit into an IBC tank. My son has a 500 litre tank in his van and I have a 650 litre tank in mine.
In summer our RO has no problem keeping up, but we have to plan a bit during winter. By filling up on Sunday morning I can give the RO a jump start and even with both of us working full days we manage through the week.
Although a faster 4040 RO would be great, we cant justify the initial cost when what we have works ok. Were we to put another van on the road then I am not sure if I would cough up for a 4040 or just add another 450gpd RO to the system.

I also notice from other posts that the faster the RO works, the less efficient it appears to be, ie., tds in to tds out, but I stand corrected. When the 150gpd membranes are new we get an output of between 001 - 002 so don't even need to use resin. Our tds is about 255 at the tap.

so a guy who uses 400 ( or less ) L per day needs a 4040 that will produce 2500 GPD  ::) ::) ::)

why ? ? ? ?

One advantage of using 100gpd membranes over 4040 ro is if you need a booster pump you use cheaper pump as it does not have so much work to do.

Hi Matt

I agree with you.

I also find that, as the RO works all night every night during the week in the winter, I don't have to worry too much about keeping it warm. As long as the water flows through it, it won't freeze. Its just nights like tonight that I keep it wrapped up with a 100w light bulb underneath it to provide warmth, which I have successfully done for the past 5 years now.

Don't know what I will do when the supply of 100w bulbs is finished. I suppose I would have to replace it with a 200w tube heater, which kind-of defeats the purpose of saving electricity and the planet in the first place.
