I've only got a few jobs on today and had intended doing them first thing, I took a look out the window and saw the car and ladders covered in frost and decided I'll go out later in the morning.

hi murdie be careful of frosted window sills and DONT put the ladders on them!put them under the sill or over the top of the window.im extra careful in frosty weather.sometimes it doesnt thaw properly all day.thank God ive got a extension pole!!

Thanks for the tip, I use a trad pole for ground floor windows that are bit higher, I may look at getting a longer one for 1st floor windows and try and master my wagtail flipper that I bought and has only been used on my own house windows.

if u work alone traditional its a must to have an extension pole IMO.there are too many windows that are risky off ladders esp in winter.(mossy/wet decking/imprinted concrete/gravel sloping driveways/certain types of smooth flags are v.slippy etc)i have an unger ali pole and just pop mop/squeegy on the end when needed.i used to take a lot of risks years ago.ive fell off twice.not for 10 yrs now though!! :.older and wiser!it takes a while to get the hang of pole work and itll slow u down a bit til u get used to it but its a hell of a lot safer!piece of mind!

buy some spikes for your ladder i say /  yesterday i  put the ladders on greasey decking where the  decking joints went the wrong-way but the spikes DUG IN good  , so no worries

matt i wear neoprene gloves for first hour or so.my hands dont really get wet that much as i squeegy most windows then detail with dry scrim/microfibre.i wring a scrim out first thing then stays slightly damp all day without havin to put it in the bucket again!im only doin about 4 hrs actual work in this v.cold weather.freezing fog by 3pm today! :

murdie my trad pole is the teleplus 5 section 10 metre pole.its a monster!but i only use the 3 sections most of the time.so its a 6 metre pole.that does all my first floor windows that are dodgy off ladders.i use an angle adaptor on it for those deep ledges.

stan i cant be bothered to take ladders off car as no garage to put them in!i do have them chained up round the side of flat at weekend when not working!ill be working the next few saturdays weather permitting!!

Cheers, I think I will get myself a longer pole for those ackward to get at windows, no point in taking any chances as it's hardly got above freezing all day.

Johnyald, would spikes stop a sideways slip if the window ledge was iced up ? I don't mind spending a bit money if it means saving my skin, and before I get all the wfp brigade on, I know I would be safer still with a system but that will have to wait several months at least, unless I can find an absolute bargain

A sealskin winter glove on either hand and one carbonfibre pole, nice scarf and away I was. Man I'm happy I don't do ladders anymore, it's easy to forget how hard that could be sometimes.

iam just glad i was on a contact job today which was all wfp.had me nice warm sking gloves on and  christmas hat,got the whole job done today,

if i was doing it off the ladders i would have been home freezing at 2 oclock and having to go back monday,temp didnt reach 2 today.

no ,spikes wouldnt stop a sideways slip but i never place ladders on a sill as theyre always slippy even in dry weather . i put ladder BElow the sill ,as it gets a good grip on the pebbledash or brick .     spikes are one of best things i ever bought . I  cudnt get ladder-mitts to work on my ladder so iv got 2 bits of bike inner tube slid over the tops of ladder
