Cleaned this carpet this week but it has three large patches of historic dog urine staining. I have thrown everything at it and they are still yellow/ brown patches.
Any ideas?

Type of carpet would help?
Also chemicals you used?
Way you cleaned it?

Andy
Don't beat yourself up too much. If the person or animal is not young you are always up against it. Often, you are best to explain to custy that the best you may be able to achieve is to alleviate odour and remove bacteria.

"Historic dog urine staining"? Chances are you won't get rid of it. It is acid & if it's been there a long time it will have eaten through the fibres. Explain that to the customer.

Its when urine is in an acidic state would be the only chance you have of removing the mark, urine turns to ammonia after a couple of days and the stain then becomes permanent .

Thank you all for your replies, Your advice was first class and she was more than happy when I turned up this morning talking like an 'expert'.
She is going to replace that part of the carpet and I got another job out of too.
Thank you all.

Prochem manufactures a great 2 part urine stain remover, it's a peroxide based product and once mixed has a short life. It is not designed to remove any odor, just the yellow stain. In the states they call it "Urine Rescue"

Sounds like Oxi Brite / Fibre buff / Fibre shampoo as it known here in the uk.
I would try FF rinse 50ml per litre red hot water, apply to area, leave 10 mins then rinse.

Had a yellowing stain to deal with after a child vomited on beige 80/20 wool.
Customer had a small vax type thing and got most of the vomit out but the yellow stain remained.
Strong Oxibrite mix and left to dwell 10-15mins and it was all but gone.

My neighbour has a two year old urine stain,
would it be worth trying the 50/50 mix of fibre
and fabric? -and rinse I take it mark it's plain water?
Reason I ask is the guy will be well happy for me to play, as it's on his first floor landing carpet.
It's polyprop by the way.
Thanks in advance!!
