Need some advice about 5 weeks ago i had to get a new clutch for my van cost me £1100 in total since then the van has been back to the garage 5 times twice the van had to get towed back as the clutch went both times.The first 2 times they bleed the clutch but after 2 days it was as bad as ever in the last 2 weeks they have removed the gearbox and reffited the clutch but its still not right .Monday morning i took my son to school driving home broke down in the middle of Paisley couldnt get the van into gear Arnold Clark sent out a mechanic he said it was fooked and would have to get it towed in again.I picked up the van at 5.30pm tonight they told me it was sorted jumped in the van tried the clutch its worse than its ever been the clutch is to low when you tap your foot on it slightly it drops about 3 inches theres hardly any spring in it also its cost me over £230 hiring vans does anybody no were i stand legally and could i get it fixed somewere else and get them to pay for it as they havent a clue what they are doing.

Is there fluid in the system?
Could be the master cylinder
Could be the slave cylinder

Do you belong to any organisations like NCCA, FSB etc who can offer you some free legal advice?
Failing that ask the garage what organisations they belong to and contact them with your complaint.

Not just me then ! Been having the same prob with my gearbox,still trying to get it sorted out,might end up going to Fotscray to their garage.
My clutch was also non existant after having a new one fitted,was creeping forward in first gear,with foot flat down,so booked it into the garage for Thurs,on way home i was hit by a flash of inspiration,put my foot under the pedal and moved the pedal up,been fine since,the garage that fitted it had spent hours trying to get it to work !

Sorry to hear of your problems. I would try your local Trading Standards Office over the years I've had a few occassions to call them for advice including last month with a problem with yell.com. They have always been helpful Knowledgeable and also free!!.

Ive been putting my foot under the clutch and pulling it up for the last 5 weeks but eventually it will go all together they told me today there was a fluid leak but i dont belive them they are making up any kind of exuses now ive had the full lot done clutch slave cylinder the whole lot incl flywheel.

John do you no anything about anything the flywheel for my van cost a lot more than the clutch.

£1100, Does seem vert steep for a clutch tho Darren...

I paid £260 for a brand new one (from a garage not a mate) in my old van 2 years ago. lasted a year with no problem. Then sold the van.

Tony did you need a new flywheel to this was on the invoice flywheel assembley £258, Acutator assembley £143, clutch kit £175, clutch cylinder £33 the rest was for labour not bothered how much it cost more interested what i do now to get it sorted.

I'd get it independently assessed by a main dealer or another garage, might cost £100 for labour but then at least you might find the actual fault, then return to the garage with the assessment report.

You need to contact Trading Standards. Explain everything to them. Also, if i were you i would go back to the garage and show them the invoice for the van you have had to hire out each time the van broke down after the 1st fitting job was done.  Firstly ask them if they are willing to pay you for the hire as it is their fault you have had to hire, if no good then ask them if they are willing to pay at least half.   I am pretty sure that if trading standards get involved you will end up getting the hire money back off the garage.  It may also be advisable to get your solicitor involved if you have no joy from them.  Is the garage a one man band or do they have muliple garages?

Will be a dual mass flywheel prob,was told i might have needed one on mine,glad i didn`t,i have spent as much fixing my van as i paid for it in the first place.
Should have listned to you guy`s,and the voice in my head telling me to walk,as soon as i saw it.

The website makes a big deal about customer service ,we are the best etc etc ,,, they are very well known north of the border and  and getting bigger down here,, I suggest threatening them with press exposure,, poor hardworking carpet cleaner etc etc
