You apply to whichever water board  it is and they supply the pipe.

Normally you pay a deposit and then pay for the water you use, some offer a flat fee though.

You used to be able to buy generic standpipes but not sure if you can now.  If you get caught using a hydrant without permission and an unlicenced standpipe you can be in for a pretty hefty fine so don't risk it!

Here in Manchester your looking at a rental of 40.00 per month and then you pay for the water you use about 11p per m3

in cheshire and merseyside its around £600 a year and then around 25 pence per 1000 litres used per year. thats united utilities. you cant use a stand pipe without a licence or you will go to jail  :)

i hired one from supply uk for £50 a week for a big job but when i got to the job all the taps on the fire hydrants were capped off as the kids were setting them off so i could not use it so it was wasted money. i had to drive home to fill up 1400 litres and then drive back overweight.  :'(

you busy mak?  still bust doing winter drives, the people are eager to get them done before christmas to keep it slip free. are you using a gutter vac yet?  thinking of putting full time lads out doing gutters.

That's odd, it is illegal to cap off fire hydrants.  What if there is a fire?
Sometimes they have plastic caps on the top of the openings but they simply pull off!
