bringing in work

was wondering what brings in the most work for people, as there seems to a lot of different ideas, wanted to know which one was best for getting new leads

yeh if you do a good job and ur custies like you,they'l recomend you to others and before u know it u'll have a good rep

be carefull when canvasin tho,if you go on other peoples work,even by accident,it can bring trouble as i found out lol

these people pulled me up and sed they dint have a window cleaner round this area,so i went to have a look,and the windows were filthy,so me n the missus went canvasin round they,only to find out they was a window cleaner round they,he jus turned up wenever he wanted,he'd go months and months without cleanin and then he do it once and charge the earth! none of em liked him and wanted me to do it,but wen he found out he kept ringin me up threatin me and my property,sayin if he saw me on the ladders round they he'd push me off n that,and aparently he came round to my house one day with bricks to throw at my windows,but my mate saw him and lets jus say he dint give me no trouble no more lol

if the customers want you to clean there windows then that's what matters, if some wanabee gangster can't be arsed doing a decent job then how does he expect to keep his custies.

Some one that is not up to the job or people are not happy with him I dont see how he can do that. it seems to happen alot up north, if thats where you are?

I would like to know from those who have sign written vans how much work there van generates ? As I've only been in business for a couple of months what money I've got has to add value to my business, I'm currently working from my car and it does the job, but it's not ideal.

if ur a window cleaner cleaning residential houses and u want more work, canvassing with a simple leaflet is by far the best way of building up ur round.then its recommendation if ur good and fairly reliable.trust and a good reputation take years to build up!as for website/sign written van i would say thats a must for winning commercial work.but residential?if ur fairly smart and clean and get on with people and do a good job ur work will grow and grow.some will come to u.BUT IF U WANT WORK U HAVE TO GO AND KNOCK THEM DOORS!!

Murdie,I have got some door magnets for my car with my details on from vista print,only came last week and put them on yesterday,don't know if they will bring anything in but they only cost about eight quid(I think) so its worth a try,and you can take them off your car when your not working,Ideal for me.

nothing seems to be working for me at the minute, ive about 10 flyers left, cant afford the outlay for more until at least start of jan having paid out for new tyres and an advert(which has yet to bring any calls) last month. to top that off i pulled up to my weekly shop clean only to notice the signage was all changed, then went inside to look for the owner as i suspected something and sure enough the place has changed hands, im raging inside after that, talked to the new manager and she is to put it through the new owner (not holding my breath) may not be alot to some but that work was almost 30 a month to me, now i dont have it. gutted. My bad luck has started!!

dont worry about it mate,we only started 3 months ago.and our round goes up and down like a sleepers draws.

we get most of our work from flyers and a advert in a free paper

im not worrying that much but its the principal of the thing, if i sold my business on to someone i would have the decency to inform my customers before changeover, thats the least that git coulda done!!

JRD it can seem bad when this happens when uv not got much work.its a bad time to start a window round with the weather etc.have u not thought of buying a small round to get u going?thats what i did 15 yrs ago.then canvassed at weekends for 6 months.

no he was middle ages and a bit tubby,looked and sounded like a cowboy to be honest,i sed to him it up2 da custies who clean they windows not you,and if they want me to do it then what does that tell you about your work,he jus went crazy,accordin to him when you buy a round its yours foreva and no other window cleaner is allowed 'on your turf' no matta wat,and unfortunatly most of em up north av that same attitude

i think if you do a good job for a reasonable price you'l neva loose custies and they tend to stay loyal to you even if sum1 trys undercuttin ya aswell.

lol,aparently he has loadsa work aswell,i dont know why,prob jus goes around buyin rounds and no1 dares to canvass on it,i feel sorry for the custies myself,coz they dont have a choice,either dont have a window cleaner or have him,it people like that,that gives window cleaners a bad name.
he then went round tellin other cleaners i was offerin to do the windows for free!!! now that made me laff,think he was tryin to cover up the fact he was a bad window cleaner which is why he losin his custies,rather me doin 'free cleans' lol
