x-tel poles for 2nd storey?
« on: November 29, 2009, 01:31:15 pm »
I've just been asked to do my first 2 storey property so need to get a longer pole. The only one I can reasonably afford is a 31ft glass fibre x-tel.Very reasonable at under £200 but I'm reading more and more that they are really flexible and no good at heights over first floor. Is this the definitive opinion on them?I won't waste my money obviously but do need a pole that will open me up to doing 2nd storey stuff.

I suppose it depends how much you will use it really if it's for just the odd few windows now and again then something like you have said will do the job and wont really be hard work..if you will be using it alot or for long periods at a time then i would suggest going the carbon fibre or hybrid route mainly because they are lighter and stiffer then glass fibre i personaly use an slx mainly for it's stiffness and lightness which means i don't get tired out as much when using it for longer periods although that particular pole is not without it's faults but currently IMO the best on the market and worth the extra money.

The xtel is a brilliant pole upto 17 feet only.
As your in the pocess of going wfp, you may not have much cash to invest at 1st. But the pole is your primary tool and a good one will shave an hour off a 7 hour day.
Glass fibre poles are too bendy above 17 feet. If you can juggle things, invest in a good carbon fibre pole 1st and get the rest of your kit around it.

Ive got the 27ft (30ft reach one)

Its what i started out with until i found out about the harris pole.

Yes it can get bendy if your working at funny angles, but if its a straight up job then it will do the job.

Its not the lightest by far, i have a few days each month where i use it all day. Just think of it as less work at the gym ;)
Only those who risk going too far will truly know how far they can actually go

Window Wipers, does that length allow you to comfortably get to 2nd storey windows? If so,I think I will go for that one.

Even if you decide that you need to pay less and not get one of  Gardiner's very light poles, I suggest that you invest in one of their brushes.  The brushes are light too and this can be a big help if you need to use a longer pole at a tricky angle.  If costing is tight, I imagine that other pole suppliers would supply without the brush and pole hose and deduct the appropriate amount from the bill?
