just pull riser up slowly give vessel a gentle shake if tight .
Get one of those scoops for filling bird feeders with peanuts from b&q (scoop one end and the handle acts as a funnel with a slide thats got a hole in it to act as on/off )holds 1 litre
when putting riser back in make sure threads are clean push riser in til it goes solid then give it a gentle shake push in rest of way and screw up
WARNING dont get any resin in eyes am told it hurts like hell

I fill with the riser in the vessel. I block the hole at the end of the riser to prevent resin getting in it.  I use a watering can to fit the spout between the riser tube and the vessel edge and tap the resin vessel on the floor periodically to compact it a bit.

Fill with the 'riser' out.

When (3/4) full, fill with water to just below the top of the vessel. The riser/filter will then push down very easily.

surely you will then only have about half a resin vessal full as soon as the water is in ???

Unscrew cap lifting cap and riser tube being carefull not to pull tube from cap. rinse of rise tube and cap, empty resin out swill out with pure water making sure no resin left on the screw down threads on neck of vessel where it starts to go in. fill resin to neck of vessal (I use a funnel with end cut off to fit in vessel others use road cones cut down) add a little water and put riser in twisting down, job done, resin vessel about 3/4 full allowing water to flow without channeling.

Yes, resin level will fall when water is added - but you can put more in if you want before the final 'topping up' with water.

The point was - NOT to try pushing the resin tube/filter down through DRY resin (which was how I originally tried to do it!)

Something new I've learned here.  I wasn't aware that the riser and tube could penetrate wet resin.  If I had known this four years ago I could have made that particular job a lot easier for myself.

To be fair I missed that point mike (sorry was not getting at you),

I was told years ago to fill 3/4 I said the same thing also about having 2 di's , 3/4 will go down, fill to neck as I said it will settle at the right amount add another di and it will last longer I said this to the supplier. The suppliers will do not offer this as standard as it ups the price I said this to the the supplier because I did the homework and still today nothing has changed it because some want to go for the cheapest price that will cost the alot more over a year  ::) they talked me round me on that point and I got another di vessel couple of months later off my own back..
