scaffold for cleaning Conservatory roofs
« on: November 22, 2009, 07:30:06 pm »
thinking of getting into cleaning con' roofs. I thought the best way would be to use a small scaffold and water fed poles.

from what I can see the only problem area will be the fancy plinth that run along the top of Victorian style roofs. These seam to be quite green & dirty, can you apply enough scrubbing action onto these plinths with a WFP?

anyone clean con' roofs? how do you do it? and is it a good money earner?

1st of all you dont need scaffold,it'll cost to much.
I do 6 every year for the past 3 yrs all just before summer, spring timeish, all done with a extenable lance and a wall cleaner HP that is,as for the ridge,i just slip a fan nozzle on.
Couple of things to look out for, watch where you spray water some cheaper cons tend to leak at the seals esp if water is force in a different angle, not a real money earner i charge £40-£60 per unit theres only one thats a sod for access as one side is about a foot from nextdoors fence
Been there,seen it,done it,just cant remember when

I use a conservatory roof access ladder to get up close and personal and use wfp mainly - especially good when the finials and crest are rather wobbly in their fixing and prone to falling out/over.

Need to check with the custy if still in guarantee cos if it is you need to use the manufacturers recommended cleaning products  ::) or face voiding the warranty - especially if they have the solar glass or have a uv coating on polycarbonate which you will scratch with a brush.

Pressure washing again voids the warranty so i never use one - as you say they will and do leak as they are not designed to face hi pressure on the seals. Drips inside and that could be expensive!

Most conservatories are next to a neighbouring fence/wall so you have real access issues there.

Charge between £40 - 200 depending on size and how dirty and any access issues. largest ive cleaned was 6*6m glass roof.

I use Krud Kutter Gutter Cleaner on the fancy UPVC at top of Cons. Dissolves the Algae and soiling, soft brush and wash off. Job done !

Oh, and it's water based, enviromentally friendly etc.
