Weathermen - what's the point?
« on: November 20, 2009, 03:47:48 pm »
Why do they bother predicting the weather? Short term they seem to be reasonable but anything further than twelve hours away and they haven't got a clue. Really messed my week up this week with their predictions being so bad. Trouble is the customers believe them too and like to tell me all about the heavy rain and 300 mph winds that are due for the rest of the week  ::)
Rest of the week arrives and it's been pretty reasonable to be honest.

Carry on like that and those blokes from Cumbria will come down and lamp you  ;D

I took today off as the forecast was better than it turned out, they reckoned it would be cleared by 10.00 am but it was chucking it at 11.00 still. Id had a reasonable enough week to be honest, so cant complain. My missus needs to get out though, I been supporting her for far too long  ;D.

If it wernt for her Id be rolling in it.

I'll often look at this site   http://news.bbc.co.uk/weather/forecast/11
But if I was to believe the forecast then I wouldn't work 'till thursday  :o
Can't believe people are paid good money for this.  :-\
Think i'll go windsurfing every day next week with those windspeeds.

It's a real pain though when most of your work is 25 miles away.
Last week I only worked mon, tues, and half of thurs.. Next week not  looking much better.

I feel comfortable with forecasts.

I watch the BBC weather for the week ahead on Sundays and keep an eye on the forecasts as and when the week requires. Some weeks it is clear that the weather will pan out fine so theres no need to watch the weather.

However, with Spring and Autumn weather the forecast needs to be viewed 2 or even 3 times a day as it changes. The weathermen are generally right 75%-80% of the time so thats fine.

I pay no attention to ITV or commercial laden web-sites however.

Remember that when they get it wrong it is generally timing rather than the actual weather effects that is the problem. If they say that it is going to rain on Thursday then they may be talking about the whole 24 hour period.

I try not to watch the weather reports on tv . most of the time they are wrong, not just a litle bit but totally, rain today and there is sunshine, going to be heat wave it rains, I class it as a joke because I could do just the same with no training, cannot be hard getting it wrong 90% of the time....................................wish I could train window cleaners this way and customers be happy to lump it save me a load of hassle :(

Our tv weather gets a 4/10 from me :(
