Hi guys, forgive me for being a little thick!  Im still struggling to get my website noticed by google, I have registered with them, but still not up there where I would like it to be.  I have had jobs through the website and I know it's not A class!! but it's all I could afford at the time, getting back to my question, what exactly are "SEO's" and "Meta Tags"?  By the way my website is www.brooklandscleaningservices.com

Ta guys Nat..... ;)

I keep reading queries about Google Adwords and search engine optimisation. We actually do this inhouse.

I am quite happy to put a day long course on by our two techies. As it would be a freebie it would have to be during the week (otherwise I have to pay o/t) and I could only handle 3-4 people because you would have to be squeezed into their office as for it to be of any benefit you will have to be able to see the screens they are working on.

We are based 10 miles from Newcastle. There is a Metro station within 200 yards so it could all be done on public transport.

Would it be worthwhile? If your interested stick Newlife into Google. If my boys are doing their job properly you should find our site (fingers crossed here that I don't get hoisted by my own petard ;-)   ) just register your interest and I will get something organised.

NB. We are NOT a training company or anything so you would  have to take us as you find us.

If it was organised before Christmas there is stacks to do in Newcastle and shopping galore etc if you wanted to bring a partner not interested in web marketing and cleaning.

as far as im aware (i may be wrong) you cant edit the vista print metatags. Therefore you will never get a good google position.

quick tips can you do in minutes: change the title tags on each page to be unique and relevant to the page, don't worry too about your name as no one will search for you, but rather for the service you provide, e.g. professional cleaning services in ..., then contract office cleaning service in ... from... etc. i know you already have different titles but use more keywords.

focus on getting your local towns more in your pages. don't over use the word as google will punish you for this, but rather then say we offer this, say we offer this in this town, in this county. we also clean here etc. e.g. We operate this service across all of Manchester., should have on the end of it, in areas such as this place and this place and this place.

imo having pictures of yourself on a proffesional site can bring down the quality of the site as they wont be proffesionally taken, however you site doesn't look professional so get snapping away and replace the generic images with your own.

put h1 and h2 tags on your page, use them like mini titles across the page. remember you're only allowed one h1 tag per page.

be more active online in a real way. don't go faking soething you don't know, but if you find you're a user of things like facebook, then make a facebook page for your busines linking to the website, if you regularily read forums about cereal, then post more with interesting posts and links to your website. the more links to your site the more google will think you must be an interesting site and one that people will want to see.

probably best i can think of for now.

Many thanks all, will have a go at your suggestions, I am thinking of getting one professionally done, did most of you build your own?

Would you say it's best to keep this one until I can get one done? or is it really that BAD :(

imo, it doesn;t look that good and im sure you cant change meta tags with vista.

I would (if your wanting to go a bit cheapy on this) is get a template site done for you.

It would look much better (professional looking). You will get a better page ranking from being able to edit metatags too.

here try http://www.avondhu-internet.com/

this guy create websites for all type of cleaners and knows how to SEO properly. he has many well ranked 1st page google websites for other cleaners on this site.
