Should I get a website?
« on: November 19, 2009, 11:20:07 am »
Hi Guys,

I was wondering if getting a website to promote your business was worth it.

My company is only small, operating locally. Is it worth it?

Advice would be welcome.  ;D

Hi Dean,

Getting a website is very well worth it. Most people in todays market look for solutions online. What is more, a website is normally cheaper in the long term than advertising say in the local rag or similar.

But a website is not the be all and end all to a business, local leaflet drops are also a very powerful method of advertising provided it is done right.

The difference between advertising in a newspaper, magazine or leaflet dropping and a website is, that with a website you have enough space to put your point and business across. With normal advertising you have only a split second in which to firstly capture a persons attention and secondly let them know what you do and that you are the right person for them. This can often be a hard goal to achieve considering the amount of space you get.

If you want to know more then send us an email for the attention of 'Tom' (youve seen our site I think?) and I will do my best to assist you as I do websites as well as administration, manage the IT and Cleaning where required.

Kindest regards,

Tom. (Sorry im not my wife ;) )

yeah website is essential. we pretty much can get away with no advertising what so ever and get enough business from the website to be comfortable each week.

don't go thinking though that a website is all you need to see results online, you'll also need to pay for seo which can be just as much or more then the website. i have seen many people mention certai methods of advertising don't work but they don't have a decent website to back it up, this is were i think you'll most benefit, any advertising  you currently pay for will get better results with a good website.

Is this your website Tom?

Your keyword and description meta tags are identical on every page,.. Google will penalise your ranking because of this.
You really need to add some geographical keywords too,.. names of the cities/towns/villages you work in and their suburbs. Think about what your potential client will be typing into Google when they search for your service, and use those key words in both your meta tags and on page text.

SEO is as important as design,.. :)

Hi Nathaneal,

That is indeed the site,

As mentioned in a previous thread, the SEO will be altered to fit within the week. There are a couple of tweaks that I would prefer to make before this so that when exporting the xml sitemap to google everything is in place and as should be. For me there is nothing worse than presenting the xml file to google only to have to alter the structure a couple of days later and then attempting to get google to acknowledge this fully.

I will give you a heads up once things have been altered so you may take a look and see what you think :)

Sorry forgot to add,

Regards,

Tom.

110% YES

Its the cheapest, furthest reaching form of advertising there is. It also enhances all your other advertising,... a small newspaper ad isn't big enough to describe all your services, but add your website address and anyone who is interested can find out more. :)
