What is it with the public!!
« on: June 04, 2005, 05:25:09 pm »
Is it me..
I've got my sign written van, uniform, quality cleaning equipment, only use Prochem chemicals etc.
I go to a property to price up a full house of carpets.
Take my time, do my tests as Prochem taught me, explain the benefits of stainguard etc.
Quote £90 to do lounge, hallway, stairs, landing and bedroom and another £80 to protect them. Custdy is over moon with price and agree a date to do job.
Get phone call on way home from custy saying one of his wifes mates husband can do it for £50 and could I cancel.....gutted.
Is it worth being professional or should we all revert to jeans and t-shirt with cheap as **** prices??? Dont they care about their carpets?

Decaln,

Keep being professional ,your reward will come :D

The public can be incredibly frustrating but with time you will become almost immune.

Cheers,

it depends if you want to work.price is often the deciding factor. however to get away with charging higher prices you must get acceptance off the customer, by qualifying waht they require and if price comes into it then the objection to the price must be quantified, there are cheaper cc im one of them. i want a full order book not blank space. this question arrises time and time again .remember you are not the only person selling in exactly the same wat as prochem operatives you are usually using there guidelines. it does not work for everyone. ive never worn a uniform in my life. or day in day out said thesame selling policy to each customer. if you want work its out there. dont believe its not. but if you want it dont take prisoners/ you skould have phoned back and said ill match the price.get to work that is what this is all about.

do what I do.... when they ring to cancel offer them your corrective cleaning and drying service.(just in case things don't turn out like they expected with the cheap cleaner??)because when you've quoted for the job and explained your method of cleaning the customer will be expecting to be getting the same spec. from the other cleaner but will soon find out that it's not! I've lost count of the number of times customers have said to me that the other cleaner who did the job last time didn't do a quarter of the things that I,ve done while cleaning for them??? and follow on with they never realised there was so much to carpet cleaning??? Cleaned a beige lounge carpet today £80 and had a £10 tip???(must be too cheap)not to mention bookings from a neigbour and the customers mother too!you need to charge more to afford to give your customers more of your time to do the best possible job, something the cheapjack cleaners can never do as they have to do 4 times as many jobs just to break even!so can't afford the time!keep at it it's just a matter of customer education! you win some you lose some!

ive said john rather than lose the job match the price getting nothing is nothing. and if people on here dont understan that every job you lose has gone elsewere. they will end up skint. i did not say that the price was good. dog will eat dog , and i tell you now i would beat anybodys price to take that job away from you, and when doing it i would be upping the stakes at that time with add ons. declan trust no one its like the x files out there, if you want to eat rub the nose of other cc in your area, and grind them to the bone. then you will be a winner

I agree with John, never drop your price as you lose all credabilty. I have never compromised on price or quality of workmanship. Have yo ever had a double-glazing salesman round that quoted you £10,000 and then when you said f**k off he said "if you place the order now I can do it for £4,000"!! The first thing you think of is that he was trying to rip you off in the first place. You are welcome to the cheapskates Ron. John and I will take the cream. :) :)

As long as there is Splash an Dash and Bogdeit and Legit doing suites for £30 and carpets for £10 Joe Public will think that people who do the job correctly and charge the prices  ( that these Customers would want paying themselves for doing a back breaking job) will believe the Proff@ guy is ripping the off.

Remember:-

The Customer is Always right, BUT NOT ALWAYS CORRECT!!

What's wrong with £70 for a suite? That returns more than my target, of £35 per hour, which I might add is similar to garage rates, where they have massive overheads whereas mine are minimal.

£35 per hour equates to  £50k per annum, which I regard as a pretty reasonable income and considerably higher than I would earn in previous employment, as a college lecturer, or driving instructor, or many other modes of employment.

Incidentally, not all bodgeit and legits charge low fees, some even work as franchisees of very well known companies.

We are in a very competetive world where the likes of  M and S, known and patronised for years as the quality people, are having to face severe competition from thelikes of Primark and Asda who market by price

Not suggesting  we undercut everyone to get volume, but there are and always will be low cost services available to your potential clients.

Its often been said.......don't just offer one price. There was a recent post concerning the cleaning of ' tracking only ' which I've done for years and allows prospects an  'economy clean '

Obviously pricing such work is critical, but by charging a higher area price you can clean more rooms, for no more effort and you have a win/win situation for both yourself and your client
