For those that use stand pipes.
Do you pay for a years supply, or just pay for a week at a time as and when you need it?

As and when we need it, we cover 3 different water auth. down here only because they all border each other.

Utilising the water from a stand pipe is covered by the regional water companies and you phone them up and tell them how many cubic metres you will be using per day.

For instance Thames Water, up to 10m2 per day, for one month is approx £120.00. Not sure if you can do it daily or weekly. Our use is over monthly periods.

They do ask you about the tap and equipment you are using and also they may come out and check your gear.

I dont have taps with meters on them, I have 1 inch and four inch taps.

You can use Thames water stand-pipes for a shorter time.
I usually tell them what I am going use per day say over the period I need.
They then do the maths and break it down to a day rate. Easy Peasey.

For 6-10 cubes a day it was about £10.00 from what I remember.
Then there is the temp license to go on top of that, I can't remember what that was last time, about £40 for admin costs?
Haven't needed to use Thames Water for about a year.

I last used them in Islington in january this year, on a Sainsburys store. They are really helpful.

Have been fortunate for the rest of the year that every store I have worked on has had a decent water supply and the fill up points have been sufficient.

The only point I will make from the original post is this.

If you get caught taking water from a WO (wash out) or FH (fire hydrant), without a license you are in serious trouble and the fine can be up to £20 000.

How do you work out how many cubic metres of water you will be using?

With two pressure washers operating at 15 litres per minute I drained a 1000 litre tank in 45 minutes this morning.

On one machine it will last 2 hours. This morning we were wetting down a storefront for a reopen so the guns never stopped but when you are working you add in moving the hoses, van etc and it generally comes in at an hour on two machines.

The best day I have had I did 9000 litres.

How do you work out how many cubic metres of water you will be using?

You work out what your machine uses per minute (Lts) x 60 then you know how much an hour you will be using. This is the worst senario because as Rob stated there will be hoses's maybe machine moves to do so you would be using less. Our holding tank is 320 gallons around 1500-1600 Lts I can empty this in about an hour as the machine is 27Lts per Min.
