My clutch went on my Primaster today only done 24,000 56plate ive been quoted £780 to fit a new clutch and the van will be in for 2 days does that seem about right dont no if iam getting ripped of or not the garage said its the labour thats the killer.

Quite expensive mate, I'd defiantly shop round, i'm a part time motor trader when i'm not cleaning windows. I'd look to buy something like your van with a clutch needing doing and look to spent about £300 quid tops!! 24k and needing a new clutch is poo

its true its a long job , most garages charge high as all renault clutches are.=  bugger of a job .  id ring around and get quotes ,you should be able to get it done for under 500 id say   - but make sure the garage u pik hav done this job before so they know the job as it were

See if it as under warranty would it be covered or is it classed as wear and tear.

Got it new 2006.

it is an expensive job as the gearbox has to come out to fit the clutch. It may not be the clutch it could be the master or slave cylinder as it was on my primastar. Mine has never been right since and cost just over a grand for new cylinders and a new clutch whilst the gear box was out. I cant wait to get shot of the van

If it's under 3 years take it to the dealership, should be covered under warranty.

I got mine done for £617 at a branch of Mr Clutch.  They change the slave cylinder at the same time I think.  Mine is a Trafic but same job I imagine.  My clutch lasted 78,000 miles so I reckon you either got unlucky or maybe it's driving style - i.e. balancing clutch and throttle too often?
I got my vehicle back the same day and even had enough time for a little work.  Evenings werew lighter then.

i got my vivaro clutch done at mr clutch for £599.00 including vat and they changed the gearbox oil as well as , been alright since they did it regards alan

Took it to my local Nissan garage today it still has just over a month left on the warranty Arnold Clark said if there is some kind of fault that they can find then the warranty should cover it but if its just wear and tear than i will have to pay for it.Even if i find another garage that will do it cheaper than £780 Arnold Clark said they would have to charge me for the labour for stripping out the gear box.

darren it sounds like they are going to claim its wear and tear to me save yourself the grief and a few quid and take it straight to mr clutch they do a top job regards alan

Alan even if its £599 from Mr Clutch Arnold Clark said they would have to charge me for the labour for taking out the gearbox if my warranty dosent cover it so the time i pay AC and then take it somewere else i would probably be cheaper leaving it were it is they have me by the balls.

Its 4 hours labour charge to remove the gearbox.

4 hours labour is gonna be £200/£300 , mr clutch will do the lot including parts for £599 , your call mate but i think you,ll save money if you go to mr clutch , hope you get it sorted cheers alan

It should not be wear and tear on such low mileage, unless you have been driving it in London or other very heavily congested traffic a lot.

Could be worth a call to the Nissan complaints line (they must have one) and see what they have to say. Most people on this site would think twice about buying such a vehicle, especially if they do not do the right thing by you.

Ive already phoned Nissan and complained the women i spoke to said its not covered under warranty but they said they will still have to wait and here what the garage say i asked her do you not think its a bit strange having to replace a clutch at 24,000 she said she dosent no anything about the technical side of things.

They must have some kind of technical advice/complaints line. That is not a satisfactory response. Everything I hear about these vans puts me off buying one. Tactfully point out (in a friendly way)that you are part of a large online forum of van users and we are all waiting to see what happens.

You Should not have to pay a penny on you van if it is still under warranty! Thats what warranties are for, too cover you if something like what's happened happens. They are just taking the mickey and trying to fob you off. Stand you ground and complain, complain, complain!!!
