Im happy with that Dave.

If Banantynes got £300 million, so what.
Money does not bring happiness.
Yes it can buy nice things, but you get a flash new car and you worried where you park it-it might get sratched or broken in to, buy a flash house and fill it with rich furnishings and you worry when you go out that it hasnt been broken in to and all smashed to pieces.

I gave up a good job as a Transport Manager almost 20 years ago.
Still dont earn as much now as I did then, but people who really know me know I am a happier person doing what I am doing now.

Dave, we live down the road from the local Crem'.  My Mrs is saving on the black bag and taking me around in the wheelbarrow so its pretty convenient.  Only downside is the house gets very 'dusty' at times, in fact, i'm sick to 'death' of dusting  :)

Depends what your aim in life is Fraser.

If you want to be the richest man around thats fine.
But you may make many unhappy people on the way.

Mine is to make people happy if I can.
I like happy customers :-* :-* :-*

Couldn't agree more Joe - well said.  I would counter that slightly though and say there's no reason you can be both filtihy rich and happy, and you don't have to be filthy rich to achieve the latter.

I've learned this year, following my wife being very poorly, just what's important in life.  Nothing makes me happier than spending time with my family.  As ling as we've got our health, life is just great  :)

Chris Straker makes a good living working just half a day!

Theres many a good carpet cleaner doing "9 - 5" - I think Doug H has just said that on another forum.

I work to live - not live to work.

A "successful" business guy here in Warrington developed a network of car dealerships, beautiful house, top quality cars in the drive etc etc, he dropped dead at 45.  What was the point - he didnt get to enjoy what he worked extremely hard for.

Spot on Joe!

If I wanted to make money by the shed load, carpet cleaning is not the business to do it in.

All the people I have met over the years and there have been a few, money was not their insentive to start carpet cleaning.

Most peoples goal was a better qauilty of life ranked high on the list, shed loads of money was way down on their list.

It's not just people who work hard and build up very successful business that drop down dead when you least expect it though, is it?  That can, and does, happen to people from all walks of life.

You've got to follow your heart in whatever you do, whether that means enjoying your job as a carpet cleaner of working 16 hours a day building up a multi million pound business.  It's not what you do, it's how you much you enjoy doing it.

It's the here and now that counts, not yesterday or tomorrow.

Fraser :)
