Mad customer and good night out come (4040)
« on: October 23, 2009, 10:17:19 pm »
Basically I went to collect last night from a job,

Me; Hi there im the window cleaner

Him; ok

Me; your wife I usually see asked me to come tonight

Him; my baby is in the bath 7.30pm can you come tomo

Me; ok

Him; babe (speaking to wife who is watching the tv, she is the only on ei have ever met) Tomo ok?

Her: yeah.

So i Go today 7pm it is, I knock very quiet no answer. I knock again, very quietly no answer, writing a note and the porch light goes on, i am stunned by the brightness, look up, and he has his forehead on the wondow staring at me. 30 year old approx.

he then goed looking for the keys, opens the door and puts his finger in my face

him; YOUR SERIOUSLY F ING ME OFF

me; excuse me?

him; your seriously widing me up, I told you to come back today not tonigh

me; I work as you know, calling around constantly when is convieniant for youall the time to be let down can not be done constantly.

him; I told you my daughter was in bed last night and to come today

me; no you told me you was bathing her.

Her then went on to tell me how I gave him such a good service and have let him down twice recently. Once i was two days later than I said I would be. And even posted a note to explain on the day I should have been there.

Ma was phisically shaking with anger for some reason.

Still shouting and pointing at me. basically trying to get me to hit him I think, looked like he wanted to hit me. Argued for about 2 mins, and I said a fair few times can I have payment and we'l call it a day, still getting abuse. Eventually paid me and I was on my way!

Could not believe it all. Was standing there thinking god, Your lucky I have my business name to look after. I absolutely hate people with no mannors, im so polite to people and strangers and some people are so aragant for nothing!

Well any way the good point is that collecting did go well tonight, and tomorrow if gaps are open, im ordering my HF5 4040 kit and Di kit. 35" I think the Di was.
Just not too sure on wahat pole, want something cheapish tho....

I think you have this debt thing back to front. It is the customers responsibilty to pay you. How many times do you go back for payment before the job has cost you money?
I used to collect. Now customers post a cheque if they aren't home. I haven't met a customer worth keeping who doesn't do this.

To be honest, I do agree, but its only recently that I have started thinking different about business. I have only been doing this about a year and half or so, and have just been plodding along not putting to much into into it. Being lazy really. In the last six months I have started to decide the best way and look at a more profesional approach. And New payment options is one of these.

I think you went a bit overboard with the good outcome.

Got me all wound up and then 3 lines to pacify me. Not good enough  ;D.

You done well not to punch him. I'm not sure I'd have managed it if he came sticking his finger in my face. If I was in a mood about having to go back for my money and he started that nonsence it would probably have been a diferent outcome  :-X

Agreed.I've not been in this game long but already I've found one or two people who think they can talk to you like dirt because you're a window cleaner. My blood was boiling just reading this post frankly.I could imagine being in your situation and think you did well to keep your calm as well as you did.Not sure I would have.

I aint takin the p*ss when i say this, but i reckon half of these people are either high on drugs or comin down from them. I've seen it in family members and friends of the family. It might be drink, but more than likely a coke thing and being a friday night(i.e. payday) i'd put a few bob on that being the case.

Maybe coke, doesnt seem the sort tho. I know alot of different people do it. but seriously not the sort, just a egotistic idiot.

He also said at some point something to be little me about being a window cleaner...

I stopped argueing with a straight face, and said "so you think your above me because im a window cleaner"

thats when he then went on to tell me how good I have been but I have let them down twice..... Seriously??

Like I say I always deal with his wife, nice house nice women, met him for the first time yesterday when he was "bathing his daughter" . then today. It wasnt like he was a nutter, very smart looking proffesional, just think with the comment that sujested he was above me that he thought just that and he could tell me off like a school pupil or little boy.

Just take the money and move on. Life is far to short to deal with this type of nonesense...but hey it's your business.

Good luck with the HF5...It's a great little system.

Cheers
Dave.

Well done for walking away I like to think that I'm pretty calm but the last person who poked a finger in my face had it bent back so far he dropped to his knees, luckily it wasn't a customer. ;D

I think you should have kneeled before him, licked his shoes clean, and given a grovelling apology for daring to darken his doorstep and ask for the money you were owed.  You should also have offered free cleans for the next year.
Some people know nothing about customer service these days.  Shame on you  !!!

Just shows what some people are like. They where dumped there and then. Let go of another customer the other day after having a debate about me cleaning the windows. She was sure I hadnt because of a spider web, I pointed to the sills, showed her the bird crap that was removed and left her too!

Not entertaining arguementative customers trying it on.
