Advert in a paper
« on: October 22, 2009, 04:46:53 pm »
I have been approached by an advert only paper to place an advert in it size 17cm x 12 cm (quarter of a page) at a price of £92 inc VAT would you outlay this knowing its going to be going in approx 30,000 homes and businesses once a month?  Im holding out as i dont know what to do.  Ive also one in the local paper for £15, what is the best one to go for??

Beware of this type of offer. Often they are a scam and no paper is ever printed or delivered.

The paper does exist as ive got it in the door monthly for years, they are local too.  Still cant say a definite yes though, put it like this i got 2000 flyers printed up, have only got 18 monthly customers out of that and i paid 75 for them, will 30000 adverts in homes get me a better return?

I've used a similar local ads mag before (a known and not bogus one)  and got no joy.  I think that only had a circulation of around 5000 though, very different to 30,000.   Sounds ok for the price.

if you got 18 from 2000 that is almost 1/100 so pretty much what you would hope, so a similar return from an add that will reach 30000 for £92 it seems a no brainer to me. Even some thing along the lines of .5/100 would give you 150 custies.

It doesn't work like that though. If it is just an adds paper, most will go in the bin and never be looked at.

Maybe so, but let's look at it like this for £92 you will be going into 30000 homes even if you only got 10 custies from that then you will more than cover costs and the other thing it does if your new, it gets your name out there and if your competitor take an add and you don't then it puts you at a disadvantage.

For a small outlay it has to be worth a punt

......& a couple of recommendations from those ten - oh & I have a small office that I also want doing.......

Some are a waste of time. Some throw up nothing for a while then you might get a job that makes it all worthwhile.

Only your judgement of the publication counts for anything.

Hopefully the price is only a one-off not regular subscription (monthly, quarterly or whatever)

Good luck with whatever you decide.

Regards,

Dave

I put a local in a local directory thing...they completly messed up what i had asked for and had no joy with it. They didnt seem to have a clue about design, i sent it to them as it should have looked and they messed it up.

Not one call from it, its been months now. Not that im fussed but what a waste of money.

Ive been thinking on it and i am thinking of getting it in for the december issue that way im hoping ill get a few calls saying its coming up to xmas and people will probably need their windows cleaned, then if i get some ill be happy enough, its just the initial outlay right now, when i look at what i have im sure i will be able to afford to go with it and the local paper one, may aswell give it a shot!!! Thanks for the advice lads, appreciate it!!

The best ad investment I've made is a page on Ian's (windowwashers) website.  It's £49 a year.  I won't say that the work is flooding in from it but this year, each month I pick up one or two new jobs from it.  I've probably got work valued at around £1,000 a year after nearly two years on his site.  Picked up a £40er and a £16er last month.  He seems to keep it near the top of the search engines OK.
Not spectacular but worth £49 a year.

JRD there is a mag called The Big Mag that goes throughout NI, you can get an ad in it fr £69.

Also, did you go to the open day at sureclean systems today??

Don't waste your money.

I recently did a lineage advert, 2 weeks for £12 - got three customers from it.
Got a better return from canvassing and leaflet dropping.
