I had a split relay fitted to my last van, but
does anyone run there 12v pump straight from there van battery.
If so how is it on the larger jobs and can you start your van ok?

You can but it's a bad idea. Vehicle batteries are only designed for short bursts of power followed by longer periods of charging. They're good for about 20 complete charge / discharge cycles meaning they will die very quickly. Deep Cycle batteries are designed to be charged / discharged hundreds of times.

If you get the pump controller from Pure Freedom, it's built in.

No it charges a 110 amp leisure battery.
I don't know if I do the miles too be honest. You have to manually select the charge cycle. I only select it if I'm going any sort of distance. But the battery seems to last all week anyway whether I've used the charge facility or not. I charge it at the end of the week (full 5 day week and setting 30/100). Haven't been brave enough yet to let it go any longer.
