Maybe hit the wrong delete button and removed the entire thread and the valuable history instead of just removing Ewans bits  ::)

So a perfectly good and very useful thread gets deleted because Ewan expresses his (as usual) controversial view.  ???

I don't agree with much of what he says, but I defend his right to say it. Adults can decide for themselves the truth of the matter and/or ignore Ewan as they see fit. Why not just delete Ewan's (or anyone else's) posts if they become generally offensive?

Very poor judgement methinks!

It's a game of three halves!

Unusually he seems to have nettled some of the most patient posters on here.He needs to let go sometimes.I have come to realise, that occasionaly people know more than me, or else the thing we are arguing about is probably none of my business anyway.

This topic is a good example, let it go ewan, or better still if it's even possible you may have caused offence just say sorry and forget about if whether you think you were right or not.

I wonder that you Ewan are an existing CIU member in another guise...sometimes your direct approach is refreshing at times of course you can be a little abrasive. At times you are hilarious for so many reasons.

But sometimes it does take someone to 'push' every now and then...so whether you are being naughty or nice I feel you have every right to ask your questions and question that which irks you.

Cheers
Dave.

That's not my take on it.We all handle pressure in different ways. I don't think ewan is doing this on purpose, it's just bad timing, and the fact that although we are allowed to voice opinions we are not a judge and jury.

Some of ewans arguments are very blurred and he often mixes up unrelated facts and comments. Alex hinted that something lighter and possibly astonishing is on it's way, but i don't see a connection between that and me chucking my slx in the bin,or that this makes previous claims that the slx is the lightest and stiffest pole intrue.

Another comment that was challenged was that the 18' version was less profitable than some of the longer poles.Really none of this is any of our business and the guy isn't answerable to us.Have a pop about levers if you must (assuming that you have an slx), but at some point you have to accept that someone else's business has nothing to do with you.

When alex, glynn, or any of the others do give us little insights i am always very grateful (i don't get out much) but they shouldn't have to face hostile and incoherent arguments just for the sake of it.

I don't have a problem wirth Ewan's posts either.  I don't have to read them anyway.  In fact, I think his recent offerings have been a lot more readable (from my perspective anyway) as they have been more WC/WCbusiness specific rather than just homing in on more general business stuff.
I did think that the posts to AG were a bit too direct and it would be easy to take them as rudeness.  If a (potential) customer started querying my profit margins and they weren't prepared to accept my answer,  they would be told to take a hike (just how politely depends on the prevailing mood of the day  :) ).
All IMO of course but I believe it is fair to query stuff on here about products if those products are (often reluctantly) promoted on here.  However, I think querying the price and margins to that extent was a toenail or two over the line.
So the product isn't perfect.  It isn't cheap either.  But it does seem to be the best pole for all levels up to 2 floors above ground that exists right now.  Things may need replavcing or altering sometimes because its lightness may mean a bit less durability for some parts of it.  However, I've switched to using such light poles because I had elbow and shoulder issues and I would far rather pay more for a light, slightly less durable pole than having surgeons operating on my body.

I appreciate what are saying leapstallbuildings, but remember I never asked Alex for his profit margins or anything else that would be classed as private information for businesses.

Alex posted these comments of his own accord as usual to promote his pole sales, I read what he posted, commented on what he posted and ended my post by saying it’s “misleading at best”.

That is about as rude or offensive as I got, the subject matter wasn’t my choice. He could have retracted his own comments.

I did have to go by memory though because the thread was no longer there.  I must admit Iit was more of a skim read I did so may not have got it totally accurate.  It came across as if you were trying to say that you thought the price was too high.  I wish the thread was still about to refer to.

Ewan, just give it a rest will you? You wound up a supplier by questioning his profit margins and not accepting his replies. If Alex explained himself that's fair enough it's none of your business what more can he do? - just drop it.

I think Ewan did step over the mark this morning, for his sake and a certain suppliers sake I removed the topic, it was a Sunday morning and i really didnt have the time to sift through all the posts.

Although Ewan did step slightly over the line this morning, I often admire his stance, he is like a Jeremy Paxman character, I just wish he wasn't as bashful at times.

If suppliers come on this forum they must have equal treatment and face both the praise and the objections, If it was all lovey lovey it would just be horrendous.

I like Alex and his company a lot, he is always there even after closing hours to help me out , I am even a nightmare for him as i test his poles to destruction, Personally  I think he shouldnt have to justify his prices to anyone, but by the very nature of a forum he is going to leave himself wide open to praise and criticism, It is just the nature of the beast.

Have you watched Watchdog recently, you should see retailers etc get a grilling over such trivial matters, only last week Centre parks were being asked to justify there price hikes during the summer holidays, the answer for me was simple if you thought it was too expensive, don't go. Simple !!!!

Pretty much every other sentence you have posted in this thread is a dig towards Alex in some form or the other. You say you don't insult him, but manage to insult him in pretty much the same sentence. Alex is one of the nicest guys on here, and explains everything in detail, but you still come up with these idiotic statements like he's promoting his pole.

What's wrong with some people seriously.

HEAR, HEAR!

YOU are FAR too abrasive , Ewan.

And you are VERY often wrong in what you (originally) say and it is YOU who then have to ‘backtrack’ and adopt a more conciliatory position.

I wish you would stop posting.

Your comments were misleading, but also unnecessary as your range of poles speak for themselves. I hope this time you can see my positive comments have always outweighed the negative which were always the minor issue.

(Its mostly ftp fault he makes your head swell)

Ewan i admire your stance in general, you get over scrutinised yourself when you make comments. So you must realise that not everyting needs to be elaborated on, to make it the best way.
You ask questions that i would like to know the answer, so fair play to you. But dissecting the guy on profit margins and other aspects of his posts to the extent that you did was unnecessary.
Alex is a grown man, so i'm sure he isn't too far from a box of tissues. He's always around to answer and help out when he can. Even when the questions have got tough as in the case of the slx. Which is gardiners only product that has drawn criticism as well as praise.
I wonder if his helpfulness somehow clouds the fact that he is also in business like the rest of us. Products and service are fair game for debate. Every other little snippet of info is a bonus really. But shouldn't be pressed to the point of upsetting him.
