« on: October 11, 2009, 11:17:18 am »
Upgrading my van which has a 650ltr tank to a new van carrying a 1000ltr
system, but what van is best to carry this weight? Looking at lwb transporter
or lwb trafic. What would you guys in the know reccomend?

              Thanks in advance, Callum.

renault master or transit , you need a 1500kg payload as the water alone will weigh 1000kg plus the frame 50kg,1 person 100 kg,tank of fuel 90kg, hose reels, poles, battery,di etc

the transporter t32 will take 900 litre tank max

Dont know about Transporter but Trafic/Vivaro/Primastar are too lightweight for this. Even the higher payload Trafics (2.9 tonnes) only have a payload of about 1200kg.  Don't do it or you will be overloaded IMO.  I would be tempted to go for a 3.2 tonne Transit or even a van just under the 3.5 tonne GVW cut off point for tachograph to lug that sort of weight around.
There's a list here  http://www.commercialdiesels.co.uk/vw-lt35-diesels.asp  of 3.5 tonners - though you may consider a 3.2 tonner enough.

Thanks for replies guys, would really like a transporter so will have to go for a 800ltr tank and crimp my hose while cleaning. Looking at a 2 man set up so do you think the t32 will be ok? Also roof rack with at least 1 ladder.
Driving transit at the moment, great van but even the new ones look very dated from the back and don't mention the rust :o

               Thanks, Callum.

If you're working as a 2 man team then the amount of water that a T32 transporter can carry will be more than enough.  You will be able to fit a 8-900 litre tank in this vehicle easily and this is more than enough for 2 operators for a day.  I have a 700 litre tank in the same vehicle and never run out with 2 operators.  We do use microbore hose which helps control the flow rate and we have pole control valves on every pole hose.

Are you working from a swb transporter, if so how do you find it? As mentioned before will probably go for an 800ltr system, do you sell these? Leaving most equipment in transit when i sell it but will keep micro-bore and poles for new van but will need another hose reel, pumps x2, pump controller x2, di x2 plus a new 24ft pole. Any idea on price? Will get local garage to bolt tank to chassis and finish off myself.

                   Thanks, Callum.

I work from a swb Transporter (photo below) and find it very suitable for the task and plenty of room and pulling power. I cannot give you a price for components on the forum, but if you email me on alex@agardiner.co.uk I can help you out with an idea of costs. We will be selling crash-tested van mount system that will go up to 8-900 litres in size, these should be available from mid-November. If you have everything else though you will probably just want a tank to bolt, which many retailers sell.

Looks like i can get away with a swb transporter then :) better looking than the lwb model. Where did you get yours alex and did you take a finance option, if so what would the payments be per month? What bhp is yours and did you get the s pack? Sorry to keep picking your mind ;D

                      Thanks, Callum.

Our one is a window van T32 102PS which is actually the biggest payload out of all of the models/engine variants. This is more than powerful enough to haul around an 800kg system and equipment. It has no S pack, but has a long list of options selected. Being a window van it has great visibility for manoeuvring.
