Conservatory cleaning advice please.
« on: October 09, 2009, 09:16:32 pm »
If you are doing a con. clean from top to bottom, how do you do it?

Do you spray the roof with something first and if so how and with what liquid and apparatus? Do you use different brushes or a pressure sprayer or a backpack or what?

Thanks.

Hi.

Get a spray applicator...

dilute some tfr (traffic film remover)
into your backpack...

Spray the whole roof... leave for ten minutes( clean all windows) thats the way i do it...

then if possible , use the customers outside tap to wash the roof.... then rinse with pure water.

to be honest , i leave all con roofs for rainy days...and i use all pure water... as i dont need it for anything else if its raining.

Thanks for the speedy reply Gazza - excuse me for being thick but what exactly is a spray applicator and where do you get one and as for the back pack how do you connect it to the spray applicator. Could you use one of those "pump up" thingies?

Do you use your normal wfp brush and pole to scrub off?

once you have put the tfr in the backpack do you have to then flush it out? surely some of it will stay in the back pack and contaminate the 'pure' water?

I use a pump-up garden sprayer to apply the tfr. Leave 2-3 mins & scrub off using normal wfp method. I use the same brush that I use for windows, just give it a good rinse after using tfr before doing windows.

You can clean conservatory rooves without using tfr. The algae softens up as it gets wet, and comes off easily when agitated with wfp brush.

Only time you need any extra help from chemicals is if roof is directly under trees and is covered with tree sap.

This time of year some of the plastic can be effected by fly blows and some other things that seem to stain. So you need to decide what level of clean you intend to provide - wash and rinse for a very fair price of £30 - £80 depending on size.

or if you intend to use chemicals and upvc cleaning creams then you price needs to be more.

what other chemicals are there out there? ive heard a few things about making sure you dont leave tfr on for to long. also how do you go about applying it other than through your backpack? i dont want to contaminate it at all.

cheers and sorry for thread hijack

I now use ubix 2000 instead of TFR.

Use a 5 ltr Garden Sprayer from Garden Center's.

It's not recommended to use Power Washers on Con Roofs or uPVC Frames.

Not really as the pressure washer is too powerful for the seals.

its not the wfp back pack , its a seperate thing used for spraying

I just use a small ladder, and do spray one side then the other..then leave it for ten,

but to be honest its only used for really dirty ones, as water alone and a good scrub will do for most. ;)

Can you use a pressure washer to clean a con roof?

you can but it will invalidate the warranty.

the customer will look to you to foot any repair bills.

Any new conservatory has to be cleaned via the manufacturers recommended cleaning products too, other wise again you will invalidate the warranty.

Thats right,

i am quite wary of cleaning them now, especially lean to ones, where there is a pelmit type thing against the wall,

i once tried to get under it to clear leaves, and ended up with dirty water running down a newly painted wall,

luckily the decorater was in the house and the owner was not...

and i paid him £20 to go over it, and i was lucky again, that he had a laugh and was a decent bloke.
