Two years later ...
« on: October 09, 2009, 05:18:10 pm »
I'm happily working in the light drizzle today and this chap pulls up on his drive next door to the house I am doing.

"Hello, how much would you charge to do my windows?" He asks over the fence.
"Ah..." I reply semi-apologetically but firmly. "Now here's the thing .... I'm afraid, sir I wouldn't do your windows."

"Why is that?" He enquires, looking rather puzzled.
"Well" I reply leaning on my wfp pole and supping my cup of tea made for me by the customer's daughter for whom I am working. "It's because last time I cleaned your property your debt remained unpaid despite a reminder or two and there was a time when a bird messed on that window after I cleaned it (I point to it) and your wife called me back and expected me to clean it for free the next day."

Looking rather consternated he tells me "I am knowing nothing of this..."
"Perhaps not, sir. I dealt with one of the ladies of the house and as you can imagine it does not enamour me to the idea of cleaning for you again.

"When was this happening?"
"Over two years ago, at least; it's a shame really but there it is ... anyway I must get on. Good day to you."

And that as they say was that!
It's a game of three halves!

I Had the same exerience the other day... although it wasnt over paymnt.... they said I was too fast, even though they said the windows were clean :o

they were always out and just paid each month, I  would phon the night before for access...anyhow one particula time the husband was in , and I didnt know....so I left my bil and moved on.

when I called the following month she said I was too quick, although she agreed  hey were always cleaned well :o anyhow she ws so condasending , I decided to tell her we coudnt do buisness again.

A Few months later the husband stops me and asks if I could clean his ( he didnt recognise me , as I was on my own, and ther are normally 2 of us)...

I explaned that He wuldnt be happy because although I clean to a high standard , I am too quick. and he wouldnt lie it.... but  i gave him a new price anyhow...LOL ;D

HE was rather embarrased , and hocked at my new shiny prices ;D

That is true, Dave - and he didn't wear a horned or winged helmet while standing in the prow of his viking longship wistfully leaning on his spear with the Aurora Borealis behind him as he came down into the North Sea either.  ;D

Similar stuff has happened to me a few times over the years - though not recently.
Have you noticed though, they never offer to pay the debt do they?

I also had the opposite happen.  I once did a last clean for someone before they moved abroad.  He was going to rent out his house while working away.  I never got paid.  Obviously I stopped cleaning but the next door neighbour remained a custiew.  Somne years later, after cleaning next door, I was sitting in my van having a sandwich break when he came out.  He wasn't after me to clean his windows.  He just said "I owe you some money don't I?"  I think it had been about three years  :) .  So he paid me, apologised for the delay, and went back in.  Quite funny really.

A while back I knocked to collect....(a snooty custie)..."youl have to come back n 10 minuits, im eating my tea" .....thing is I had finished the street, and I decided to not run around after him, DUMPED!!!

Anyhow, I cean his neighbours both sides , and after a few months of missing him out he comes over an says "I have a cheque for you"  the LAZY GET expectd me to knock his door for it!

I politely told him that he is a rude toff .....he sees me every month and still refuses to walk over with the money.... :D :D
