Benevolent Fund For Carpet Cleaners
« on: October 09, 2009, 01:03:08 pm »
Been asked to post this from another forum........

Benevolent Fund For Carpet Cleaners
by Steve Gunn on Fri Oct 09, 2009 6:54 am

Would it not be possible to set up a benevolent fund for carpet cleaners for when death or illness happens to help out the families. It would take a lot of organising and would need to be ran as a charity not sure how many would be up for it to make it viable

Could someone paste this on ciu and cleantalk to see what peoples views are?

I think that because mostly, we carpet cleaners are one man bands, this would not work!

Your suggestion that we should all have life cover in an earlier thread is fair enough, and I myself am insured for a sizable pay out! (Don't tell the wife!)

The Fire Service Benevolent Fund see's a lot of it's funds from donations by Jo public and the like. I can't really see people giving money to "Carpet Cleaners Benevolent Fund", it's not as if we're seen as heroes as with the Fire Service etc....

And if there was any suggestion that we carpet cleaners could pay into the pot, then why not just use that same money to cover your own life, through an insurance agency?

I think it's only aimed at other carpet cleaners coughing up. It's a nice idea.

The main message is GET YOUR OWN HOUSE IN ORDER. But it's nice when fellow CC reach out to those in real need.

the best thing we could do to help other carpet cleaners is make it easy for them to take care of their own families in case they unfortunately die.

what I mean is we all go online and get a quote for life insurance and put those quotes were we all can see them. What stops us all sorting out insurance is apathy, we can't be arsed....... so lets all do it for each other.

if I die next week I'd like to think  my partner would get 200grand. this would help her with any financial difficulty that might arise from bringing up our son without me.

so this weekend I'll search on line for life insurance, and put my quote here for everyone to see.

if a few of us do it we might help the next guy who passes away but fortunately he  has seen the info we find and it kicked his arse into gear and prompt him to get some life insurance.

when I die I want you all to laugh and say good riddance to the wan***r ;D ;D .....not think you have to have a whip round to help my wife (after all she's probably going to be the one that kills me!!)

That's rubbish Steve's suggestion is the best suggestion made on here possibly ever and it's certainly not a bunch of namby pamby socialists floating it.

Perhaps Dr Carpet could suggest how such a fund could be set up and managed.

If 1000 carpet cleaners donated just £4 a month that could become a considerable fund from which to help the unfortunate.

Hi Guys

A nice idea but most CC's are busy trying to make a living, far better to take out a term assurance personally, which is much cheaper than whole of life and only pays if you die during the term.

I did this but thankfully didn't use it and now my kids are grown up, I have about 35K of whole life linked to my pension, used to be most tax efficent way, not sure now.

Ted, I don't think Rob got where you were coming from !

Cheers

Obviously not Doug and still don't.  It came across as sarcasm, a kind of Tommy ( socialist ) Sheridan might make.  Must be my Capitalist upbringing !

How many people on this forum do not have insurance for their business or vehicles.  Just add personal life insurance as well.  It sounds as though many on here do not have life insurance as they are going to seek quotes.

Death is one of those things, it is definitely going to affect you - the question is WHEN?  Who knows, pick up the paper any day you like and you will see reports of people dying unexpectedly - YES !! it's always someone else, is it not, it could not possibly be me.  Try telling that to the poor souls who thought just that.

I for one, do not expect anyone else to pick up the tab if I happen to die unexpectedly.  I have accepted the responsibility that it is up to me to provide cover for my family should the worst come true and not rely on the genuine good nature of anyone else.  Let's face it, everyone has the opportunity to have life insurance ( perhaps it should be called death insurance ).  If they choose not to, that is down to them and no one else.

Unfortunately some may find what I found a couple of years ago, when I was refused life cover when changing mortgage provider
Having been superfit all my adult life it was a real shock when I had a heart attack
Had I continued with my previous insurer my cover was secure and would have continued but I made a bad decision and cancelled in favour of another which was suggested by our mortgage broker.
Stuffed !!

Benevolent Funds are for those who work within the emergency serices or our armed services.
The rest of us know the rules, get life insurance.
I'm not anti helping out those who have died suddenly and I have donated to the few who have left our 'circuit' in the last couple of years but given the money people on here and other forums boast of earning, putting a small amount of that into a savings plan or insurance isn't asking much is it. Afterall aren't we all clever enough to be running businesses?
