Di Sys and Softener Resin

Hi everyone, been told that If I use a softener Resin with my di sys I could save my di resin by about 30% is anyone useing this  with a di? I am also told that I can save on my softener resin by flushing it thought with salt, will any salt do or will it have to be Sea Salt/ block salt?

Any help you can give would be brill
