All you ex factory workers - have you noticed a general improvement in health since you work outdoors?

Talking about health.
Has anyone come across houses with asbestos roofs?
as I clean guttering and one of my customers has an asbestos roof.
Would I need special protective gear and masks etc?
I was wondering this as a lot of the muck in guttering nowadays is sandy powder from the tiles. which is washed into the guttering when it rains.

would I need to go on a course for this?
as I would need to transport the asbestos waste.

yes you can go on courses to get training and certificates, to transport or get rid of asbestos is a very dodgy game, most places charge a fortune to dispose of it, i was doing some clearing a while back and found asbestos guttering (never new it was this at first) and put it on top of the skip, the bloke came to get the skip and told us to remove it, he also said if any was found in the skip then we would be billed £800, no joke

be carefull with the stuff matt it aint nice

Matt, you should be looking out for asbestos for your safe working practise when quoting the job.

If it is, then walk away! Far to dodgy to be getting involved in that, let some other tea cozy who too thick to know better do the job.

I only clean out pvc guttering, and thats it.

This is how I view asbestos products and I in no way recommend you copy me.

I have a 1960's garage in my garden with an asbestos cement formed panel roof. I understand that if it is not drilled or abraded in any way then I can view it as of no danger. To remove it I would wear a proper facemask and disposable overall, double bag the panels and take them to the tip.

I would not clean out gutters as I believe there would be some abrasion there.

Asbestos in ceiling tiles and cavities I would not touch.
It's a game of three halves!

thats the offical line, your right

my concern is the asbestos does break down over time and becomes brittle, when the 2 sheets rub together in the winds, they can create dust

i have done various asbestos courses ( inc the H&S exec course ) its nasty stuff and was used in ALOT of products, artex used to be loaded with it, even them vinyl floor times from teh 60 & 70's , it was a wonder material that cost very little, thus was put in alot of things
