Cheesed off,.....
« on: September 28, 2009, 04:43:57 pm »
My van went in for work last Wednesday and because of one thing and another it looks like I won't have it back till Friday.

So,.. out comes the backpack and barrels,.. and I'm working out of the car for a few days.  :'(

Today was day one with the backpack, and I was sick of it by lunch time!

Filling the barrels, lifting them, dragging the backpack around, constantly re-filling,... going to the car for another barrel,... Its just so slow and so much extra work (For my round at least)!

I want my van back!!!
   :'( :'(

At least I've a website to build this week, which should keep me away from the windows for a little bit.  :'( :'(

I hate getting the backpack out, had to do the rear of a first clean with mine the other day and it was a complete pain, I'm thinking about building a 125l 4 wheeled trolley for a few awkward jobs and to limit the need for the backpack.

Nooooooooooo, dont tell me that!! Just had my backpack arrive today,Thought it might help with some jobs that are a p.i.t.a,hoses getting snagged up etc.  >:(

The only downside i see to it at the mo is the amount of water it goes through,no way of turning it down, seems to use loads more than the van system which is running about 30/35%.
And its only a 16ltr hold.

My van has to go to vauxhall soon to get some insurence work done on it,was thinking the backpack could see me through until i get the van back but after reading this.................

Shoulda got a shurflo! They have different speed settings..

You could just use the pole tap to adjust the flow rate though, by turning it half off, as you need it.

Tried that allready, doesn't work, just builds up the pressure then switches off.
No big deal i guess, just means i know the windows will be well rinsed!!  ;)

the pump may burn out if you do that to much    thats why they use digital flow controlers .

just fit a T joint and run 1 side of the T back to the tank ( backpack ) fit a tap this length and open it to a 1/4 or whatever you feel the flow rate at the brush is right

job done

its called a by-pass setup

zip-tie the pipes together and you will not even notice the extra

do you have wcw backpack, just got one as a backup to my freedom trolley, which battery has died on.

Just used wcw backpack today was quite happy with but opposite to you the water flow is a little bit slow?
which i am suprised about as 80 psi pump thought it would be blasting out.

anyone else experienced this have i got a dud?
It's o.k but just feel it needs a little bit more welly!

any advice guys
thanks lee.

It went in for a service and to get a job done on the gearbox. The guy (He's a mate of mine, and I know he's not messing me about) took it all apart and realised it wasn't the bearings but the syncro. No where in Ireland had the part & it had to come from France,.. it won't arrive till tomorrow or wednesday. More expensive, more time off the road,.... :(

Jarvy,

I have the wcw one too, have got on great with it for many months now...well...a year actually! Have full van mount too mind.

Regards turning the flow down.

Simply use a valve or inline tap. Turn it down too much of course and the pump will simply shut off, but it's a piece of cake to just adjust it to the flow level you want, and no, the pressure won't keep building up, nor will the pump keep cycling and thereby burn out the pressure switch.
You certainly don't need to waste money on an electronic flow controller unless you want to preserve and extend the battery life, eg, maybe your battery runs out of juice, ergo you need to conserve its output...not that you would fit such a flow controller to a back back anyway!!

Ditto on a full size van mount. My flow control if fitted on the negative pressure side of the pump so no matter what flow level I have the pump NEVER cycles.
You only need the potentially troublesome electronic flow controllers if you are worried about your battery running down during the day.

Yup,mine is the wcw backpack. When i got it it didn't work to start with. Took the tank off and found the battery was moving about inside and pulled the wires off the switch. No big deal, just put some packing around the batt to stop it moving. Also makes it less noisey as it doesnt resonate so much now.

Put it back together and found the flow rate was woefully slow,so took it apart again and found the pipe from the bottom of the tank to the pump was kinked and not letting the water get to the pump,so changed it with some of the hose from my reel in the van.

Comes out like a jet wash now, only downside is it empties the tank in no time!!  ;)

Don't bother with a bypass! All you need is an inline tap, WCW supply them.
There are 2 of us working so both back pack and full van mount in full operation all day long, and in over 12 months I've not had any pump problems with using the back pack and inline tap for flow control.
