acountants
« on: September 28, 2009, 01:24:35 pm »
hi all.
i have a small problem. i do most of my books myself, sort reciepts an do it all on exel so its easier for the acountant. he charged me £483 do you think thats a bit high? its not like im a big company so straightforward.
a friend pays £250 with a box of reciepts. hes a blacksmith.
also he told me not to pay my tax until a bill from inland revenue came in, i was charged £375 late payment as i was waitiing for the bill. this was said ver the phone so no written proof. he also never returned my calls so i never paid. hes now sent a letter saying pay in 14 days or further action will be taken.
any views or advice greatly apreciated.
also cant pay it as u use my tax savings saving my dogs legs after breaking them..
cheers
Dave

How long have you been running your business. This is my first year and I'd like to think my Tax bill isn't to much, as I've spent a hell of a lot more than I've made on the start up ???

I would seek legal advice, regarding what he advised and how much you are to pay as requested.

Regardless of who you have dealing with your accounts, its your personal responsibility to ensure your tax bills are paid on time! Ideally always pay them up front before the deadline. I don't think you will have much come back on that one.

However I agree dump the bar stool!

Get someone who is going to be of more help than hinder to you.

I also put all my receipts in date and order and all sorted for the months, all my out goings and in coming are all itemised and pre printed. Im also being charged around the £450 mark.

However i too think i will be seeking a new accountant, a sole proprietor that i can have 1-2-1's with rather than dealing with a partnership and a office of over 10 people.

Was told by my business manager at Barclays that I shouldn't be paying more than
about £250 max for accountant or I was being robbed.
I do mine on quickbook on the computer.

When I started I found two lovely ladies who used to charge me £129 :o I constantly recommended them until last year they charged me £542 >:( I have since found another, through recomendation, £275 :D I'm not recommending him to nobody though ;D Anything between £250/£350 seems fair enough and it's important to build a relationship I've found there's no silly questions when it comes to paying tax or taking on HMRC.

We had a Springer Spanial that decided to chase a stick "it" dropped of a crag top aptly named "Surprise View"  in Borrowdale near Keswick many years ago. She's still around to bark her story ;D

I think you have to have 2 dogs to be classified as guard dogs.

I know as I was bitten by a guard dog years ago I have the scars on my left arm where the b@stud got me!

I got out of the van in a transport yard, walked towards the office, I was half way between the sanctuary of the office and the van and heard a lot of shouting, looked across and saw a effing great alsation coming for me, nothing I could do so it bit me on the arm, (just like they are trained to funnily enough) luckily my watch took most of the bite. Then I 'persuaded' it to let go by continually punching the side of its head, it realsed it was hurting too much and let me go.

I had seen the 'guard dog' sign and seen a sleeping dog in the corner so I thought I was OK. Bloke said crafty thing, he's allways doing that, and laughed it off. Charming eh.

Getting back to the post...I would deduct the £375 from his invoice, pay him the differance, then get a good accountantant.
