Put my foot right in it.
« on: September 25, 2009, 01:19:56 pm »
Last week got a call from a tearful lady who had used a rug doctor to clean the only carpet in the rented flat she was leaving and yes it was a disaster.
Being a sucker for a damsel in distress I went round to have a look.
It was as bad as I have seen for a long time, very wet, very smelly with big areas of black stains where she said machine had chucked out the dirty water.
I thought a good rinse with fibre and fabric would do the trick - no.
So I cleaned it with powerburst and then cleaned again with M power.
I have to say to my eyes it looked pretty good when I had finished.
Got a call yesterday from the letting agent to say that the landlord thought I could have done better around the edges so could I go back today as a new tenant was moving in.
To say I was p***** off would be a big understatement after the work I had put in restoring this carpet but held my tongue and was polite.
Went back to the flat this morning and there was a man touching up the paintwork who said " you must be here about the carpet "
So I gave him the whole story and moaned about picky landlords with a few swear words thrown in.
Something about him made me stop my rant and I panicked and said "your not the landlord are you " He replied "no but my wife is "
Oh s**t.
You have never seen anyone backtrack as quickly in your life.
In the end he was ok and he even asked me to clean his mums house but boy did i feel a prat

Well Fenman, you sound like my kinda guy, you know, would never get cross with the person who caused the rigmarole (landlady in this case), thus these people never learn.

Happen it might be that a lesson has been carried away and the hubby tells the wife what people really think of her 'style'?

Mind you, in my heart i suspect that the hubby is well aware of what she is like and that he's under the thumb too  :-\

Something similar happened to me ! Was cleaning an ex rental, for the letting agy i work 4,booking the job in was a nightmare ! Hadf to book it start 6pm on a friday !
When i got there i had to work around a decorator, and 4 cleaners, who were supposed to be out the way ! Was a small 2 bed place, carpets were filthy ! Had a really good rant about one of the people at the agy ,who i deal with, the cleaners all joined in !
Good rant later i get on with the job, said parson turns up at the house.
Oh Mark have you met my brother ! Who was helping out decorating the place !
My stomach went all weak ! I kept a low profile after that one !
What goes around comes around

I did a 4 bed detatched house in spring. The carpets were proper minging, dog pee, poo and sick in one bedroom, mascara everywhere and stuff I didn't have a clue about made it a particularly tough clean. I also noted that there was mould growing in the oven, but I purposefully failed to tell the landlord I did ovens ::)

When he came back to inspect the work and pay, I told the landlord how digusting some people can be and how if I were him, I'd keep the last tennents money! "Oh, it's not a tennent who's moved out.... It's my wife, I've kicked her and her "F-ing" dog out and we're getting divorced!" I just died there and then!!!!

Hi Guys

Suppose my most embarrasing moment was chatting to a lady customer with a large bump, i asked her when she was due.

Had the baby 2 weeks ago, not often I'm lost for words but just decided the hole I had dug was sufficently big and it was best to stop digging :-[

Cheers

Doug

I was cleaning for one of my wifes work friends and, when I struggled to get a parking space at her door, asked her who all the cars belonged to.

She said "well, that silver one there is my dads and Im trying to sell it for him".

So I say, "oh, why doesn't he sell it himself?  Does he not like dealing with those sorts of things?"

And she replies "No, it's not that, he died in March!"

Did a job this summer and the little fat son of the owners came to the door to let me in.

When I was filling the buckets I made a comment to the lady about her son. I said "He's a stocking lad, he'll make a great boxer one day" her reply to me was "That my daugher Amy" I didnt know where to put myself I felt such a prat.
She did look just like a boy though.
