streaks on wfp
« on: September 15, 2009, 04:07:42 pm »
hi

have been using a new wfp system for about 250 lits and have noticed that on some windows on a first time clean with wfp that it is sort of leaving streaks on the window like it isnt drying proprely, is this too much water not enough water,  just natural and do them again, or do i need a new brush as that is the only part thats isnt new,  my tds is between 000 and 001

any advice would be great

Your either not doing the frames enough or it might only be a first clean so you need to persist, marks ike your describing are often caused by lead above the window having run down over time and left a lead like film over the glass and frames.

I'm a relative newcomer myself mate but I've learned quickly that you must make sure the top of the frame is scrubbed thoroughly, especially on first clean.Otherwise dirty water can drip down leaving streaks etc.The thing to do is scrub the frames all round the house then go back to the window you started on.By the time you get back to do the windows the frame should have stopped dripping. Then when I start the windows I personally dont go right up to the top of the frame (I leave an inch or so) when I clean and rinse.Everybodys probably got their own technique but that seems to be working so far.

Ignore the couple of cleans theory it can take 10 cleans on some windows and 1 on others it varies that much, make sure the frames are clean on first visits before judging results on the glass. This streak like thing your on about is more often than not brought on by lead being somwhere above the windows, the rain hits the lead and then runs on to frames and windows below staining them.

my advice when going over from trad to pure is on the last trad clean get up the ladder and clean the tops of the windows make sure they are spotless then you will have less problems

Or it could be the rubber seals are faulty around the window, causing them to bleed.

more than likely it will be the frames dripping down or the rubbers leaching all the fairy and muck that sits under them.
if its the frame dripping easy to sort, clean it till there is no dirty water running down, then lift off brush and direct a jet all across the top. clean the glass, then move on to the next one (if first clean) do the same, on all the top windows then go back and do the glass only.
if it's the rubber seals, then like nwh said, it really can take months till they come right(perfect), they will still look cleaner but not perfect sometimes. or a good scrub with lots of water and they look great.
another way is to clean frame and glass all way round, then wait till they start drying off, (easier on hot days) if any runs, then just give a rinse.

About the lead, i'm guessing that this doesn't apply to lead on a leaded window?Going WFP and wondered about this since I have alot of leaded customers.

On leaded windows if the shiny coating on the lead has gone or faded you can get this same effect under each bar of lead like a crying effect or a run about 1/8" wide,if theres lead above a window that`s running down on the top frame you`ll have like a black-grey stain on it look above the chances are before it hits the frames it`s hitting lead first.
