will the tax man help pay for my con?
« on: September 10, 2009, 09:32:20 pm »
With a new arrival expected in the spring, I am going to lose the small bedroom I use as an office.
The only solution seems to be getting a conservatory.
I have to have an office, would the conservatory be an allowable expence?

At 67 mate I hold my hands up to you.
I think we should all have a whip round and pay for your conservatory between us.
Keep up the good work!!!
Best wishes Jason

Don't see why not. Plus you should be able to claim additional tax relief off your electric, gas bills etc..Since the room will be bigger it will account for a larger percentage of electric, and gas used in comparison to your exisisting bill.

Plus going into winter will mean these bills will increase anyway so you could over estimate what percentage of elctric and gas accounts for your new conservatory and get a little tax relief on heating the lounge ;D

Jobs  a goodun!!!

you will not be able to put though the construction costs

but you will be able to put in a couple of hundred quid a year for its use and heating

I had to laugh at the subject line.  It wasn't until I read Dai's post that I realised that con was an abbreviation for conservatory   ;D

My Mrs is over the moon, I'm not quite as enthusiastic. Beware of taking Fridays off when the kids are in school. It gives you time to get up to all kinds off mischief.
It's the tax man that insists I keep all this stuf for 7 years. It only seems fair that he helps pay for the storage area. Of course I could stick a cot in the conservatory.
