Customers that talk
« on: September 10, 2009, 04:12:10 pm »
Dont they just get right on your ur goolies.

I reckon its the blokes that do shift work that are the worse. They talk like theres nothing else going on in the world. They dont realise that all you are trying to do is earn a wage. These guys are in the sort of job where they dont need to keep an eye on the clock, just turn up and do their 8 hours then trundle off home again. Dunderhead type work really.

Just got in and felt like saying to the last geezer 'Listen mate, your windows are fifteen quid a visit but talking is extra. I know your bored titless and your missus is an old goat, but give me a break for once mate!'

He was gibbering about the mindless drivel ever, expecting me to have an interest in it. Something about, actually I havent got a clue what he was talking about at all.

Rant rant rant !!  :D

Is anyone listening   :-\

I usually say something like,

"Well. I'm sure that you've got lots of things to do and you don't want to waste your time talking to a boring old fart like me. I'll get off now and let you get on with your life."

It ALWAYS works.

At least, I think it does. I'm walking away as I say the last sentence.

Ive just spoken to missus about this geezer who I I was refering to. He worked with her a little while ago, apparently when people entered the same room as him they just totally blanked him, did what they had gone in there for an dleft, totally ignored him  ;D as they knew what he was like.

I feel some comfort from that knowledge  ;D  ;D

Haha Sorry but that made me laugh, i suppose because it's what i was thinking myself. Trouble with this "working for the public" lark is that too many people spend their time preening their craft and reviewing their costs, but don't want to put anything into boosting their people skills.

I know that the quality of the end-product is paramount (afterall it's why the custy gets us in), but a lot pivots on liking the people you hire. I know the 'type' who talks you to death, but it's unavoidable.  :-\

did he mention fish, wcleaning, or diving?

I can be pretty garrulous when i get going, mostly on business. I tend to analyse and break things down.

No one is saying we dont pass the time and have a chat....we do... but we are busy and dont particulally want to chat...

customer relations is important and we know that... hence the topic...

if  willy wonka did not care...he would not have posted the topic...

he would have simply been ignorant with the customer and carried on working

ha, had one of these whilst canvassing tonight, first house in the road too so I wanted to get going before the light faded.  Thing is...I pushed the price a bit and still got the job, AND even though she was around 65 (I'm 35) she still had something about her that I liked ;) .........so between the good price and good looks I hung around a little more than I would have done on another occasion  ;D  ........Still annoying though, especially when they seem to completely ignore you shuffling further away and saying " see you then........."

Thankyou Gazza, I really COULDN'T have put it better myself.

The guy would have kept me for an hour if I'd let him, by the time my patience was running thin he'd already bored me to tears for 15 minutes.

I always get caught up with the old folk i clean for. I feel bad manufacturing my way out of the conversation as for some of them i know i must be the only person they see all day....so i usually make the effort to have a natter with those custy's as that could be me one day!!!

Well known time wasters on my round are dealt with like this......I get my brother to drop call me 2 mins after he heads off back to the van and i use the bullsh*t call to get me out of there quickly. Haven't had to use it twice on the same custy yet but it seems to work a treat at the mo ;D

Any other tips i can add to my repertoire would be greatly appreciated!!!

And if it is a pretty young housewife asking you about your wfp and how do you put it up, do you make an excuse and leave or give her a demonstration? :D
I started out with nothing......I still have most of it.
