Just out of interest
« on: September 09, 2009, 06:50:15 am »
Hi All

Just out of interest how much would you guys have quoted for this.

Huge Building, low profile carpet 2230 sq meter's, not to dirty, a few water marks, can drive T/M into building, water available. A bit of hose changing involved here and there, all on one level, to be done on a Sat & Sun??

This should be interesting!

Cheers

Justin

Take it there's more than 1 of you?
Anything to move?
Sounds a lot of graft for 2 days.
£3000 sounds about right though.

Good point from J&S - a Sat & Sun is cutting it tight for time.
The price is right but what about your method.
A TM would take longer then a rotary, and if its only lightly spoiled as you say, them rotary the way to go.
Get 2 off ebay 2nd hand, buy loads of pads and you will still have change from a grand.
Get a mate involved, would be hard work and soul destroying by yourself.

Well, just about any sort, as ebay is "famous" for.
Recently seen DF and Tex machines for about £650
but Numatic, Truvox and other "standard" rotaries for £75 upwards.
You spot the bargain and takes your choice.
As always with ebay - buyer beware.

About £4140 before you ask why the £140 that’s a pound a mile to look at it and back definitely a two rotary job and two-trainee cc only time I would use the tm is too clean the pads. Be in and out within the day.

Justin

You not near Guilford Surrey are you?

presuming 2230m² is the floor area and not the total area you've measured up with a 5m tape from B&Q.....

:D

.... then you're probably only going to be cleaning about 60-80% of that actual area, depending on the type of building.  Even if it is all of that area, in big open square shapes, you'll fly through it.

Commercial jobs like this... probably only 1% of that carpet needs extracting, unless there are hundreds of external doors all leading on to the carpet all over the place.

Rotary is the way, it'll give visual results and really is the only way to avoid suicide.  A 60hp triple wand TM might be a feasible HWE solution, providing hoses can reach, and if you're putting that sort of kit and staff in that sort of job on a regular basis to justify having the capability (but Len runs a Titan and he says bonnet so probably best listen to him!!)

You'll probably be quoting against companies that quote as low as £0.60/m² (that's £1338 for the job).  Yeah, that's life.  They do a crap job for peanuts but the client's employee who arranged the cleaning probably doesn't know any better, and is earning brownie points with the boss for getting the job at such a cheap price compared to all the other "expensive" quotes.

Good luck ;)

Just got an office to do in beginning of October.
350sq m @ £1.20sq m and they were quite happy with that.
Only 7 office staff as well so floor is lightly soiled.
Low profile stuff but will still HWE basically 'cos that's my only option.
Reckon a day and a half steady away with plenty of coffee breaks.

I quoted on one on tue 1313 sq ft £289 hwe, normally charge .28p for com but knocked .06p off p/s/f as com jobs are way down this year, and it was pretty clean.
Going to be looking into buying a rotary, new numatics are around £450 ish ,with drive board etd 2 x micro bonnets,1 in soak 1 on the deck, what else would i need to purchase ? brushes ? or do you just use pads ? skipped over a little bit of rotary use when i did my training,i have only used rotary`s as a chef doing dirty kitchen floors with bruhes. What sort of rpm would i need for carpets ? i assume quite slow ? would it be best to get one with variable speeds for polishing hard floors ?

John why not buff it and get it done in 4 hrs?  spend ages with hwe and odds are you will get a call after its dried asking why the dirt has come back

John
Daves right.
You can pick up a sytem brand new from the likes of John Kelly for the money you earn on that job
or
keep an eye on ebay like I said before.

Mark
That one you point the link to seems a bit light in weight. Need some weight for it to clean well.
Spped for carpets as you said - low- 170 to 230 rpm. 180-200 more the optimum.
Whether you get a dual speed is up to whether you think you may need the higher speed - depends on the target market.
You need to vac well before you start to try to get as much muck up - there is usually a lot packed in.
