How do you know when your RO filters need replacing. I only ask because all of a sudden i need to be changing the resin more often. I have replaced the 3 cartridges as well

Check the TDS before it goes into the resin. If it has started to rise quite a bit, you probably need a new RO membrane. Depending on which Ro you use and how much water you produce, you will usually look to change the membrane every two - three years.

Every six months for me (as sticker on my unit says) Just changed mine only yesterday.
If you mean membranes then my first lot lasted two and a half years.
