Pressure wash HOSES.
« on: September 01, 2009, 07:33:16 pm »
Does it make  a difference to the pressure if I use diffent thikness of hose?

What I mean is, I have 3 sections of 10 m high presure hoses, 2 are skinny with  smaller connection types while the 3rd section which came with my whirlaway has a different thickness (and inner) with a different size connector. Small and large hoses not connected via quick links, but screw bolted together.

Everything works A ok, always had is this way - just wondering if i'm loosing pressure !??

thanks

Yes it will in theory but I run 3 x 15 mtr and never notice any difference - you may loose a few psi, fit a pressure guage before the gun to find out

At 4gpm - over 100ft of 1/2 inch hose you will lose 24psi

Is it the same internal diameter?

I just bought some new hose which is a slightly thicker than my normal hose and i was worried about losing pressure but they said you I wont notice a difference  ...  and I didnt.

No internal thickness of the last section is thicker.

Still works a treat !

Pressure shouldn't be affected as this is determined by the pump and the size of the nozzle jet. However it may affect your flow rate as only so much water can flow through a given diameter.

Long hoses will affect pressure, but as it's a % (quite small at that) then at 250bar you would need VERY LONG hose lenghts to make a noticable difference, it's due to the friction of the intenal hose wall.

Hoses do vary in thickness though, according to the number of steel wires reinforcing it. Two wire hose is thicker than single wire hose. Also the rating affects it's diameter as well 400bar will be thoicker than 200bar for example

When buying hoses you need to match them to the machine a 250bar machine will need 400bar hose they will need to be 2 wire hose. Thats because  a 250 bar pump should trap the line pressure at about 280 bar thats too much for 200bar hoses
I'm always in the poo, it's just the depth that varies
