Be interested to know if anyone with a vivaro trafic or primastar have had a problem with gearboxes on a model from the 56 plate onwards. A friend of mine works for vauxhall and he says they fixed whatever problem there was with the boxes by then. Only took 4 years!

I believe this to be true, although some 56 plates will still have the proble apparantly as they changed the gearboxes as mentioned on that plate so probably better to go for a later model, or better still just do a 07 plate to be sure.

Gearboxs were sorted by 2005 models and onwards, but you will get the odd one that has problems

Going back to the original question (is it a good deal?) then I'd say those prices were pretty reasonable - what's that 13k all in for a new van?.
I'm always amazed at the load capacity of the older Citroen Despatch van that I have - 900kg for such a small wehicle is pretty amazing imo.

Is there a right time and a wrong time to purchase vans - regarding tax?

From a VAT point of view (if you are not VAT registered) then now is a good time as it supposed to be going back up to 17.5% or more at the end of the year.

I forgot vat was still low so that's less than twelve and a half thousand for a new van?

VAT is quite likely to go up to 20% in near future as government looks for ways to boost its dwindling tax revenue and pay for its increasing debt.
