Yell.com
« on: August 27, 2009, 08:54:09 am »
Hi,

I have had a call from a man at yell.com and he has offered me a 6 bullet pointed advertisement on there website with an additional information page allowing more text, bullets and 20 pics. I can manage the add an make any changes i want. And i can assess the searches, calls and links to my website on an ongoing basis on there online system.

They have offered a 4 page seo website (wont be a fancy one) and a seperate tel no listed on the advertisement. (So i know how many calls they get me)

I would be in a 12 month contract and they are looking at about £210 or 21 pm for 10 months.

What do you guys think? Does window cleaning and Yell.com work?

Sounds a reasonable deal for them. I always thought they were a lot more expensive than that.

Id ask to be able to SEE someones ad/site etc who has a similiar package to see exactly what you are getting.

its not a bad price, it only needs to bring in 1 small commercial job to pay for itself

That's a good deal.  Sounds like a special offer. I paid more than that and got less in return.  I won't be renewing though.  This is not because of yell but because I currently need to cut my outgoings as much as possible.  When my finances are better, I will consider another ad.  They've been phoning me too in recent days.  I just don't want to talk to them at the moment because they just keep going on and won't shut up until they've said their piece.  Whenever the number comes up, I just disconnect it.

i put a free ad on yell.com at the start of the year, only because all the other local WC'er had, and i wanted to see what i was missing out on

well i missed out on calls to :

sell me a new mobile phone contract
sell me insurance of various types
sell me a " lease on a van "
sell me web design

notice a pattern here  ;D

Big thumbs down in all respects.

And they will NEVER stop phoning you, even years later, trying to sell you something.
Awful.

When you sign up to them (whoever you sign up to for a free directy line) you give them the right to send or contact you regrading advertising.

Should you not wish for this ask to be removed from the any yell advertising space (or other company) and be totally removed from all their databases and do not contact you as per your request.

Legally they have to take notice of this, otherwise you can do them for harassment.

Just like any sales calls via the use of yell, like mobile phones - sign up to the TPS and when companies do use the details they find from yell or other directories, get all their details in return and report them.

If you dont they will simply keep calling as you have not requested for them not to, even if you say so over the phone..

I have since seen a massive drop in sales calls i hardly get any now - but it does take some work on your part - So basically how peed are you with sales? at the end of the day they are only door knocking like we would canvassing for business, so the shoe is on the other foot now - see how you like it!

Yell.com are OK for business, i find more commercial clients use yell.com to get a professional company in to do the windows. Those who advertise in yell, have money behind them and are proper business's. It does pay to be in depending what you are advertising for.. If residential then dont bother..

As some have said just  1 commercial job could pay for the entire year of yell advertising. But it could take over 30 residential jobs??

I have picked up good work from Yell.com. But not from the book itself, don't bother with the book.
Other than the free one line ad which is free so worth whatever it brongs in :)

I advertise with them and when I get calls in I always ask where they found me. None absolute none say Yell.com they all say they googled and found me. Now heres the thing: When I mention this to Yell.com they say "How do you think you get into google and so high in their listing when you dont pay em anything, its us that gets you there"
It dosnt make sense, if Yell puts me there then why is there no link or any sign of their site?
I dont understand it and I feel if I dont go ahead this year then I will loose out on all the googles I get

I had it last year and had 3 calls from prospective clients all small residential and not worth my while. So I decided to not renew, like the others I had tonnes of sales people phone me. However had a call last week to do an oil refinary and the only place I can put it down to is either yp or yell, if that's the case then the work has paid for the advertising 4 times over on just one clean.

Yell will also raise your google page ranking if you have a webpage. Possibly upto page 1.

It all depends on your area and demand for window cleaners in your area.
I put an advert in yell.com. It cost me £400 for the year. I get at least 1 job a week through yell if not more.
In my eyes yell has  more than paid for itself and next year i will be putting a bigger advert on yell.com
