Hard Floor Cleaning!!!
« on: August 26, 2009, 10:24:43 am »
I've just spoken to the head caretaker at the school I've been cleaning carpets for.... He's even happier than last year with the results of the carpet clean. It took 44 hours last year with the old set up, but this year it's taken 25 hours with the new set up and I didn't employ the bloke from last year (Saving me/them a pretty penny!)

I mentioned to him that I have an IICRC hard floor cleaning course coming up soon and his eyes lit up, he said he's got plenty of work for me on a regular basis "Because our lazy cleaners don't do a proper job!"

If I get plenty of work doing hard floors I might consider selling the oven cleaning equipment or employ a semi retired lady/gentleman, part time to do it!

What are your experiences of hard floor cleaning, is it really more lucrative than carpet cleaning as is mentioned on some sites?

Colin, if you have found a caretaker that will use your sevices your very lucky, cos they usually say "oh the cleaners do it daily", obviously not the same as a professional clean.
I have been doimg a bit over last year, and yes it can be lucrative, find them in all sorts of houses, mostly in top end houses that can pay.
Just looked at a new floor to clean prior to sealing, being Cumbrian yourself will know about Borrowdale slate tiles, bloody thick uneven things, only difficulty will be uplifting the slurry  :-\

Nice bloke  :-\ i bet his staff enjoy doing their two hours of low-paid work with him for a gaffer.

The one in question (Cleaner that is) has had him up before a tirbunal :o I think they really don't get on, make's me wonder whether they are actually married to eachother ;D ;D ;D

They've got the equipment, maybe they should train their staff adequately, eh? I'm more than willing to help though..... Naturally ;)

In my experience hard floor cleaning is a lot more lucrative than carpet cleaning.
Carpet cleaning is not  perceived as specialised but hard floor cleaning is and therefore commands higher prices.
A lot of the time customers have no experience of what is charged for H F cleaning and will pay you many times the amount you would have charged for the equivalent area of carpet.
Even after many years of doing this I am still amazed at how good you can make any hard floor look and in my opinion it is easier than cleaning carpets.

Hey Colin, no, i agree with you and don't blame you, its just i can't abide hearing bosses slag-off their employees in such a generic manner. My bitterness stems from the efforts we invested in our own staff when we had them. And we appreciated all they did.
