me: Hi i am awindow cleaner and I would like to wash your windows.

them:  oooh! yes please where have you been all my life, can you do them now, can you get the hard ones at the top, will you come every month, i cant wait to tell the neighbours. how much is it.

this is a typical response from about 25% of the doors that I knock on.

there isn,t a magic formula or pitch, you just need to get your message across to as many people as possible.

under absolutely no circumstances begin a call with "I am sorry to bother you", it has a kiss of death effect. ;)
if it is dirty it is fair game

I've been canvassing for a few weeks, and find the "I'm looking to expand my window cleaning business ......"  line seems a bit long winded for me, especially when it's the first few doors and I'm a bit nervous.
I've now settled on " Hi, Sorry to disturb you, do you have a window cleaner at the moment ? "   short and easy to get out, and gives them the option to say yes we do if they just want to get rid.  The ones that are interested but seem a bit wary I just ask if they'd like to know the price if they did have them cleaned regularly, then give a card and let them think about it knowing I'm a genuine set up.  The ones that really do need someone are easy peasy, " ohh yes we do need a window cleaner"  give the price and tell them the cleaning day/collection method/card through door if not in etc etc.

I had a bad night last night, tried a few streets and every one had a cleaner who did, and kept, everyone that wanted cleaning, but it's great when you get that street that's in need, which are out there....

Serioiusly? On a late sunny Saturday morning I might.

I go out with my polo with embroidered logo on and it seems to make a difference to when I first went out with plain short sleeve shirt on.  Elite Industrial do very good stuff polo from £5 with company logo embroidered on properly for free - http://www.eliteindustrial.co.uk/

Depends how you say it bud, i opened my pitch with that on sunday and bagged 90 % of people i spoke to you, maybe i was more genuine :)
I would say its not so much your opening words, but smile and look happy, polite, and genuine, open with something like hi, i am a window cleaner in the local area, and am calling on the homes we dont do to see if anyone is in need of a cleaning service

- Yes , no - is your next answer and take it from there

If no find it why?? They got one, how much do you pay etc, build a picture of the area, the cleaner etc

If yes work your charms and sell sell sell

I'm a new starter, and just started canvassing, and finding getting out at 6pm/6.30 ish when most people are home from work doesn't give me long till about 8pm max now when it starts getting dark/late and a bit dodgy knocking on doors, what do  people do in the winter ?  Sat/Sunday or still knock in the dark winter nights ?

Yep, all the rest were good too, but lots of eye contact (Don't glare or give a mad stare) and think "What's the worst that can happen?" Doorknocking is the fastest way to build. It will be the difference between you getting out of your comfort zone and getting custies, and the WC who doesn't knock and waits for a phone call.

Some of us have been going awhile now, and knockimg isn't needed so much perhaps. But when you are fairly new and want to build faster than the other guy, doorknocking is the best way.

The worst that can happen is they say no thanks.
