What would you do?
« on: August 18, 2009, 06:09:08 pm »
Just took a phone call regarding a fabric suite from Mr Smith saying that someone has cleaned his suite left it soaking wet and full of soap, the cleaning company seemingly went back with fans to dry it but still wet, Oh and the carpet cleaner aslo still took the money for the job. I have been contacted by Mr Smith to go and see if  there is anything I can do., truth be told I am not sure it is worth the hassle because I didn't cause the problem in the first place. and I am not sure what I could do to rectify someone elses errors.
What would you do?

You could really be opening a can of worms by getting involved trying to rectify someone elses poor work.
If you manage to reclean and dry and leave watermarks/staining etc the blame will no doubt be passed to you and the customer will have no comeback against the original cleaner.
You have no idea what methods and solutions were used in the first place so could quite easily make things worse.
It's one of those where you should seriously think if it is the worth the potential hassle. -John

What really winds me up is the cowboys that have done this is who give us carpet cleaners a bad name, and to add insult to injury they turned up with a rug doctor. :o

Get them to sign a waiver form and tell them it's gonna cost at least £200! You could become the hero, but I doubt very much they'll blame you for what I would regard as "Damage Limitation" or "Salvage"! If you and your machine are up to the job you could make a customer for life, whatever the outcome.... If you're not that confident, leave it!

You're not from the Devon Area by any chance are you? I heard a similar story a while back from that area.....

'Rug Doctor', more like 'Rug Trainee Nurse'.

Well don't let it wind you up, for all you know the whole thing might be a 'wind up' or else the customer may have done it themselves.

Let the customer seek advice from trading standards. In any game there is the potential to have the waters mudded and professional reputations tarred, but it goes with the job i'm afraid. There's really no point at all getting wound up over it all.

I always think there is no harm in looking and much can
often be learned from other peoples mistakes. You do not have to do the job. In my book its well worth the visit.

If as you say, all it is, is that it has been overwetted & not properly rinsed , then at a price, why not reclean it. Provided you have the right equipment to deal with this problem.
Money for old rope in my opinion
